Otaku generally means someone who is addicted to a series of Japanese subculture which relates to each other like comics, animation, game, PC, SF, Tokusatsu(special fx show) and figure. Although Otaku is considered as a potential criminal or an insane person in the past, they are recently re-estimated as Japanese subculture are in the limelight. However, in spite of all the unusual interest to Otaku, most of discussion fails to understand Otaku culture and recent change in general, focusing on them simply on superficial description of phenomena or analysis which converted to unilinear cause and effect, without sufficient understanding on the history and particularity of otaku culture. In that context, this study tried to understand otaku as a historical component and approach Otaku culture in the view point of representation, practice, and commercialization. As analyzing the process that having independent autonomy, each area does not actmutually exclusively but interact in correspondence, this study could understand Otaku and their culture on the whole beyond existing studies which leaned to the side of user study and industrial dimension. The result of analysis can be divided into three: First, Otaku had exit as an foreign material of consumer capitalism until early 1990’s and it is a new subject type which appeared in the area that consumer capitalism has been deterritorialized on the edge of consumer capitalism. Second, as in the change of system of representation , those otherness of Otaku is getting extremely weak these days and also the type of practicing Otaku is changing. Third, the representation and change in the type of practicing can not be considered aside from the process that the structure of subculture industry is re-organized and in accordance to it, as the type of capital accumulation changes, Otaku culture reterritorialized by capitalism system. Consequently those reterritorialisation can become a paradox conclusion that kills Otaku culture for Otaku industry. Furthermore, this change is tend to be reduced to time lag difference and existing hierarchy and placement around Otaku culture deconstructs. As Azuma Hiroki points out, this is not a problem of Otaku culture or Japanese sub culture but a piece of postmodern society where great epics fall and it cause diverse small stories coexist as a fragment with indifference to each other.
