Introduction: This study intends to improve qualities of lives of the ovarian cancer patients through interview with direct conversation, observing their difficulties including their emotion, feeling, experience in getting over from ovarian cancer.
Methods: This research from the general hospital in the city of Seoul found that ovarian cancer patients gave permission to the participants. This study involed 8 women who understood the full aspect meaning of the interviews. they were willing to participate in the study and agreed to provide full informations this study required.
This research data had been collected from Mar. 2009 to Oct. 2009. It took about from one and half to two and half hours, with five and six times per each person. During the interview, the participant gave permission to record the session, while recording, the researcher also took notes also. The appearance of the person was analyzed by the Phenomenological Analysis Method suggested by Giorgi. The following information are the results of this study.
Results: The first of their focal meaning is, they had been too sacrificial for family, the themes was identified as the regret and grief shown participants who were suffering ovarian cancer about not having their own lifes.
The second of meaning is, their depressed life, the themes was identified as their ignorance of having cancer, facing their unacceptable situation, their unacceptable condition, and feeling difficulty in exposing themselves to others.
The third of focal meaning is, to fear for their unexpectable future, the themes was identified as the fear for losing their lives, revealing their lives with preparing the end from their attachment.
The fourth of focal meaning is, the struggle against their terminal illness, the themes was identified as unbearable pain, and endless treatment.
The fifth of focal meaning is, increasing feeling of helplessness, the themes was identified as losing their confidence, increasing weakness, uncontrolled emotion showing defenceless.
The sixth of focal meaning is, their loss of physical appearance, the themes was identified as changing their appearance including losing their feminity.
The seventh of focal meaning is, inefficiency to perform their role as a member of family and society, the themes was identified as being not efficient to take care of their family member like they did before.
The eighth of focal meaning is, their dysfunctional relationship, the themes was identified as isolation from significant relationship, including losing frequency of sexual intercourse with their spouse.
The ninth of focal meaning is, their unacceptable life-situation, the themes was identified as insensible family member and medical workers about their physical and emotional difficulties.
