This study was conducted with laying hens and broiler chicks to investigate the dietary effects of AntacidⓇ, alternative of antibiotics and synthetic anti-coccidial drugs, on the productivity and development of coccidial infection. In exp. 1, a total of one hundred eighty 34-week-old Hy-Line Variety Brown layers were divided into four group and fed each experimental diet for 7 weeks; a control diet without AntacidⓇ and three diets containing AntacidⓇ at different dosage (0.3, 0.5 or 1.0% of diet, respectively). Each treatment was comprised of five replicates of 9 birds. As compared with the control, the egg production in groups fed diets containing AntacidⓇ significantly increased, but there were no significant differences in feed intake and egg weight. The daily egg mass in groups fed diets containing AntacidⓇ tended to increase or significantly increased than that of the control group. The relative weights of various organs were not influenced by feeding AntacidⓇ. The eggshell color in groups fed diets containing AntacidⓇ tended to increase or significantly increased than that of the control group, except for yolk color among treatment groups. No significant differences were observed in the level of albumin, creatine, GOT and GPT among the treatments. The concentration of hepatic cholesterol were linearly reduced as dietary AntacidⓇ were increased. There were no significant differences in the cecal microflora and ammonia concentration among groups. Exp. 2 examined the effects of various levels of dietary AntacidⓇ, in place of antibiotics, on growth performance, meat quality and the concentration of plasma immunoglobulin in broiler chicks. A total of seven hundred fifty 1-d-old Ross male broiler chicks were divided into five groups, placed into five replicate (30 chicks per pen). The chicks were fed one of five experimental diets without antibiotics and AntacidⓇ (negative control), with antibiotics alone (positive control) and three diets containing AntacidⓇ at different dosage (0.3, 0.5 or 1.0% of diet, respectively) for 35 days. The daily weight gain and FCR in positive control and AntacidⓇ 1.0% group were significantly improved than those of other groups (P<0.05). There was no difference in feed intake among groups. No significant differences were observed in the relative weights of various organs and blood profiles among the treatments. There were no significant differences in the microflora and ammonia concentration among groups. The physico-chemical properties of breast muscles were not affected by dietary treatment, except for pH value. The level of plasma IgG in AntacidⓇ 1.0% group was significantly higher than those of both negative and positive control groups, meanwhile there was no difference in plasma IgA. The levels of plasma IgM in AntacidⓇ 0.3 or 1.0% groups were significantly higher than that of negative control, but not AntacidⓇ 0.5% group Exp. 3 evaluated the effects of different levels of dietary AntacidⓇ on growth performance, carcass characteristics and coccidiosis parameters in broiler chicks experimentally infected with Eimeria. A total of six hundred 1-d-old Ross male broiler chicks were divided into six groups, placed into four replicate (25 chicks per pen). The chicks were fed non-medicated diets either without AntacidⓇ or with AntacidⓇ at different dosage (0.3, 0.5, 1.0 or 2.0% of diet, respectively) for 35 days. At 16 d of age, all chicks from one of control group (as negative control) and four AntacidⓇ groups were inoculated with 30,000 sporulated Eimeria oocysts (COCCIVAC-BⓇ), whereas the remaining untreated chicks was served as positive control. The daily weight gain in positive control and AntacidⓇ 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0% groups were significantly higher than those of negative control. There was no difference in feed intake among all groups. The FCR in negative control was significantly higher than those of other groups and FCR in positive control was significantly improved as compared with those of AntacidⓇ 0.3 and 2.0% groups. Mortality in negative control was the highest, whereas there were no significant differences among other groups. No significant differences were observed among the relative weights of various organs and small intestine. The cecal microflora was not changed by dietary the treatments. The fecal oocyte shedding in positive control was the lowest and those of groups fed diets containing AntacidⓇ were significantly lower than negative control. The chicks in negative control showed the lowest ACI value, whereas it was higher in groups fed diets containing AntacidⓇ, specially in AntacidⓇ 1.0% group. Exp. 4 was conducted to compare the potential relative effects of AntacidⓇ on various coccidiosis parameters in broiler chicks infected with Eimeria. A total of five hundred 1-d-old Ross male broiler chicks were divided into five groups, placed into four replicate (25 chicks per pen). The chicks were fed antibiotics free diets without AntacidⓇ or with AntacidⓇ 1.0% (T1), inophore anti-coccidial agent 0.05% (T2) or natueral anti-coccidial agent 0.1% (T3), respectively, for 35 days. At 16 d of age, all chicks from one of control group (as negative control) and three treated groups were inoculated with 30,000 sporulated Eimeria oocyst (COCCIVAC-BⓇ), whereas the remaining untreated chicks was served as positive control. The daily weight gain in negative control was significantly decreased than those of other groups. FCRs in positive control and T1 were significantly improved as compared with those of T2 and T3, whereas FCR was the highest in negative control. No significant differences were observed in the relative weights of various organs and small intestine and cecal microbial populations of any of the treatments. The number of cecal total microbes and lactic acid bacteria
