This study examines the materials to be lower toxicity than acetone, using main ingredient of remover, and to minimize nail damage, and analyze difference between two materials by morphological investigation, so recommends good enamel remover. To comparatively analyze nail damage by organic solvents, three solvents such as acetone, ethyl acetate, and butyl acetate were chosen then compounded three samples consisting of each undiluted solution 80%, and oil and moisture supplement 20%. These were operated at interval of 5 days, then damage of nail surface and section was analyzed by SEM, AFM, CLSM. When it was investigated by SEM, It was found that the damage by acetone of ketone family was more than ethyl acetate and butyl acetate of ester family. Also, when nail was performed acetone operation, the surface and section of nails operated got loose much, and the cuticle layer was seriously dissolved, and the thickness of nails was thine. It is well examined to the irregularly uplifted shape in acetone rather than ethyl acetate, butyl acetate as the foliation of protein, consisting of surface, was damaged. In the result of AFM investigation, rough value of acetone was 227.3 ㎚ ± 59.1, the highest value of 200.7% compared to control, 75.6 ㎚ ± 25.7, then ethyl acetate, 132.9 ㎚ ± 13.5, was 75.8% higher. Those of butyl acetate was 0.3 ㎚ ± 21.4, and the lowest value of 19.4%. In the CLSM investigation, the rough value of acetone was 0.62 ㎚ ± 0.18, the highest value of 44.2% compared to control, 0.43 ㎚ ± 0.13. Those of ethyl acetate was 0.55 ㎚ ± 0.18, 28.9% higher, and butyl acetate was 0.52 ㎚ ± 0.15, and 20.9%, the lowest. As a result of nail section by CLSM, the rough value of acetone was 0.47㎚ ± 0.17 so it was the highest value of 30.6% compared to control, 0.36 ㎚ ± 0.10, those of ethyl acetate was 0.41㎚ ± 0.18, 13.9% and those of butyl acetate was 0.35㎚ ± 0.08, -2.8% respectively. In removing, the speed of volatilization was similar for acetone and ethyl acetate, and those of butyl acetate was lower than other two. All three did not have any residual after removing, however, there was a little white turbidity on the surface of nails when nail was removed by butyl acetate. Butyl acetate showed the lowest damage but acetone and ethyl acetate showed better usability. Therefore, it points out that proper mixture of butyl acetate and ethyl acetate are used to minimize nail damage and to increase usability. All of them showed excellent removing effect. Consequently, it is found that butyl acetate is the least in damage while acetone is the most. It is considered that butyl acetate has relatively less influence on nail because it has the slowest speed of volatilization and its dissolving level is less than acetone and ethyl acetate owing to nonpolar substance. Also, it is considered that ester gained mainly from animal and vegetable has less toxicity than acetone, so it does for damage of nail. The results of this study shows that the product contained ethyl acetate or butyl acetate of non-acetone which was less toxicity than acetone would be better to minimize nail damage when enamel remover is used.
