Every social phenomenon has diverse aspects, therefore can be analyzed from as many points of view as the number of characteristics it has. The same is true for a price bubble. On the basis of such kind of view this thesis tries to find out the origin of a bubble, despite the opposite is dominant in Korea; in respect of economic phenomenon most Koreans consider that economy should not be interpreted through political approach.
This thesis selected Japanese real estate bubble in the late 1980s as it is considered as the most appropriate case to answer the research question. The case shows two distinct features of the bubble: One is formal progress of surge of price followed by crash and the other is amplification mechanism which expresses circular increase in price catalyzed by euphoria. In addition, the Japanese case has its peculiar context of the event―Japan never experienced such uncontrolable price rise after the Pacific War. These characteristics make it possible to assume that the bubble in the late 1980s has an origin beyond the inner-market factors.
In order to qualify the assumption, this study analyses details of change in Japan's economic system from the "organized market" system to a one more similar to the "self-regulating market" system. The key factor which have contributed to the change was the capital liberalization between the late 1970s and the early 1980s. This had dismantled structure of credit supply under the organized market system. And, in the process of the liberalization, changes in interest relations of banks, corporations, the Liberal Democratic Party, bureaucracy, and in the foreign policy of the United States have mainly played the key role in the political procedure to the capital liberalization. By addressing the alteration and consequence of the change, we can develop our understanding of the origin of the Japanese bubble at that time, and seek to build a more general theoretical frame to explain the reason of a bubble.
