Borg's RPE scale

This study aims to analyze the influential degree of the break time in 5 minutes interval on heart rate and postural away by considering the work intensity levels determined by the energy consumption per body weight which has not been used in previous studies in the measurement of break time. As independent variables, work intensity divided into three levels of normal work (6kcal), hard work (8kcal), and extremely hard work (10kcal) further, break time divided into 5 levels of before, 0-minute, 5-minute, 10-minute, and 15-minute after work were adopted. As dependent variables, the heart rate measured with having breaktime and the score obtained from Borg's RPE Scale questionnaire, the subjective questionnaire of postural flail and physical fatigue were adopted. The study was performed on 12 adults male subjects, and experimental apparatus, including Tread mill, Force Plate, Pulse oxymetry, and Borg's RPE scale questionnaire were used. As a result, normal work (6kcal) and hard work (8kcal) showed stable heart rate as normal at 10 minutes after work. However, extremely hard work (10kcal) showed slow recovery of heart rate at the same condition, and even after 15-minute therefore, the heart rate was not reached to that of normal level. On the other hand, from the analysis result that Center Of Pressure (COP) distribution, X axis of COP (the axis in the anterior-posterior direction of a subject) showed the significant differences depending on the break time and therefore, break time was concluded as having influence to the anterior and posterior directions of posture. Y axis of COP (the axis in the medio-lateral direction of a subject) showed the significant differences depending on break time as well, and therefore, it was also concluded as having influence to the right and left directions of posture. The result from Borg's RPE scale questionnaire showed the significant differences depending on the level of work intensity. In conclusion, the present results can be applied as basic data to provide appropriate break time by considering the workload of the industry field.
