The purpose of this study was to develop the training program for jerk motion based on the analysis of kinematic factors between successful and failed jerk motion in clean and jerk during male weightlifting. Nine male weightlifters were recruited for this study. Motion was captured with three video cameras (Sony DSR PD-150, Japan) and recorded by a labtop computer using a software (Visol Capture program, Visol Inc., Korea). Three dimensional data was acquired by Kwon 3-D 3.1 program (Visol Inc., Korea). Kinematic variables were calculated by Matlab 6.5 program for the further analysis.
First, FF1 type shows the following differences between the successful and failed trials: medial-lateral distance between the feet at E4 (spilt), horizontal distance at E3 and E4 (jerkoff-spilt), vertical height of center of body at E4 (spilt) and the barbell at E4 (spilt), the distance between the ankle and the center of body at E4. Additionally, the differences in peak velocity of the barbell through the whole events (jerk start-split), peak velocity of the center of body at E3 (jerk off), hip angle at E3, knee angle at E4, ankle angle at E2, shoulder angle at E4, lean body angle at E3, and the angular velocities of the hip at E2 and E4, the knee at E3 and E4, the ankle at E4, and the shoulder at E2 and E4, were found between the successful and failed trials.
Secondly, FF2 type shows the following differences between the successful and failed trials: horizontal distance at E2 (jerk start), the distance between the ankle and the center of body at E1, E2, and E4, and peak velocities of the barbell and the center of body at E4 (Jerk Spilt). Additionally, the differences in peak velocity of the both feet at E4, hip angle at E2, knee angle at E4, ankle angle at E2 and E3, lean body angle at E3, and the angular velocities of the hip at E3 and E4, the knee at E3 and E4, and the shoulder at E4, were found between the successful and failed trials.
Thirdly, BF type shows the following differences between the successful and failed trials: horizontal distance at E3 (jerk off), a vertical height of the barbell at E4 (split), and the distance between the ankle and the center of body at E4. Additionally, the differences in the peak velocities of the barbell at E1 (jerk start) and the center of body at E3 (jerk off), the peak horizontal velocity of both feet at E4 (spilt), shoulder angle at E4, lean body angle at E4, and angular velocities of the hip at E3, the knee at E3 and E4, and the shoulder at E3, were found between the successful and failed trials.
Based on the analysis of the variables between the successful and failed trials during each phase and event, the main differences in horizontal distance and the distance between the ankle and the center of body were found. Also, the differences in peak velocity of the barbell, ankle angle, and lean body angle were found. Finally, the main difference in angular velocity of the knee at the transition from vertical to horizontal direction was observed between the successful and failed trials.
Finally, the main difference between the success and failure of trials was found at P3 as a transition phase from the analysis of kinematics variables.
We suggest that the performance program including a strength and an enhancement of techniques through the corrected posture should be considered in order to increase the success rate of trials during weightlifting.
