This paper analyses the effects of parenting, marital relations and inter-family relationships on the future development of female Adult Children of Alcoholics. Previous studies suggest that female Adult Children of Alcoholics have psycho-social weaknesses due to the influence of their parents' alcohol addiction and these weaknesses can adversely affect their ability to perform a parental role, one of the key indices of adult adjustment. However, studies of this issue are few in number. In light of the importance of the parental role in a child’s healthy growth and development, the outcomes from this paper provide essential information that will allow female ACOAs to conduct a parental role more healthily. During completion of this study, the author undertook a wide range of research, using various processes, in order to confirm the significant factors that impact upon parental performance. As a result, this study identifies the variable factors which explain the parental role of the ACOAs and clarifies their relations with those around them. The specific focus is on psycho-social maladjustment caused by the influence of alcohol addicted parents. A wide range of blank-filled surveys were conducted from 25 October-30 November, 2010 aimed at 1889 mothers of primary school age children. 1224 candidates actively participated in the survey and 342 female ACOAs' cases, the main target candidates of the study, were selected and used as sample cases for final analysis. In order to identify the special features of target cases and trend variables within the survey, frequency analysis and technical analysis were conducted. Furthermore, Structural Equation Modeling analysis, using the AMOS 18.0 statistic program, was also conducted in order to verify the mediation effect of depression and marital relations within the original family which would influence subsequent parental roles. The results demonstrate that attachment with original parents of female ACOAs influences can give rise to depression. However, on the other hand, attachment with parents can positively influence the parental role. At the same time, this study shows that the depression and marital relations of female ACOAs negatively impacts upon their own parental role. Through the verification process, a clear statistical correlation was identified between depression of ACOAs, attachment with parents of original family and their own parental role. On the other hand, the mediation effect of marital relations is not statistically meaningful. Through these results, this study develops arguments about the attachment with parents of original family, depression and the meaning of marital relations. On the basis of these considerations, this study suggests not only theoretical, practical and political-administrative implications, but also clarifies the limit of this work and provides detailed proposals to solve the issue that arise. There is no doubt that parent's alcohol addiction has negative effects on psycho-social adaptation of ACOAs. The problem of psycho-social adaption of ACOAs has been identified at college student-level but previous reports have focused on this group; analysis of the effects after early-adulthood is lacking. This study goes beyond the work already undertaken and broadens the scope of analysis by including previously neglected adulthood ACOAs cases. Finally, this study suggests some theoretical and practical strategies through which one may identify, challenge and resolve the correlation between attachment with parents of original family, depression, and marital relations on the parental role - one of the development tasks of adulthood.
