폐기능 검사 시 설명 방법에 의해 달라지는 폐활량 검사치의 변화 Changes of Pulmometric Measurements depending on How to Explain the Procedures about the Pulmonary Function tests.
(Forced Vital Capacity ...

Backgrounds: The pulmonary function test is very useful to assess patients with a respiratory symptoms. However, the function test results are sometimes not stable. The results can be affected by patient's cooperations. This study was performed to know whether the results of the function test are affected by explanation methods about the test. Methods: From the October of 2006 to the March 2007, the total of 109 subjects in Jeongeup including healthy subjects 59(50 to 65 years old) and 50 respiratory patient subjects were selected for this study. Three explanation methods of FVC for the study subjects ; 1) Verbal explanation 2) Verbal explanation with Demonstration 3) Verbal explanation with demonstration and procedure with an examiner. The results about FEV1 and FVC from the three explanation groups were compared. Results : 1. The third explanation method, demonstration and procedures with an examiner, showed a significant increase in FVC and FEV1 values, compared with another method, verbal explanation(p<0.05). 2. After explaining with the demonstration and procedures with an examiner, healthy subjects showed an increase in FEV1 value(p<0.05). 3. After explaining with the demonstration and procedures with an examiner, patient subjects with respiratory disease showed an increase both in FVC and FEV1 value, compared with the other two methods, verbal explanation and demonstration explanation(p<0.05). Conclusions : FVC and FEV1 were greatly increased when the third explanation method, t he demonstration and procedures with an examiner, was applied to subjects. This study suggests that the pulmonary markers, FVC and FEV1 are affected by patient efforts. Healthy subjects showed a sufficient explanation effect both by the demonstration method and by the demonstration and procedures with an examiner. On the other hand, patient subjects showed explanation effect by the method, the demonstration and procedures with an examiner. Therefore, the third method, the demonstration and procedures with an examiner, provides more correct and reliable results in patient with respiratory disease than the other two methods, verbal explanation and demonstration explanation.
