Recently, lots of countries are consistently interested in ocean and underwater development, in order to retain natural resources, observe climate change for forecasting abnormal temperature, and promote tourism and leisure industry. Unlike terrestrial, however, it is difficult to explore and retain resources, because there is a limit to reach the ocean floor for human. Information, obtained by sensor nodes through underwater sensor network, can be transmitted to ocean surface or terrestrial, to supplement above issue. In these days, the number of researches about UWASN is increasing. UWASN is a kind of wireless sensor network which delivers collected information to terrestrial communication systems by combining underwater acoustic communication and underwater sensing technology. Unlike terrestrial, UWASN uses acoustic wave as a carrier wave. In case of terrestrial wireless communication, RF signal or optical signal is used. However, both have bad propagation in underwater due to damping and scattering of the signal. As UWASN uses acoustic wave, there is huge propagation delay, compared to terrestrial communication. MDS, originally a technique, used in mathematical psychology, is now utilized in various areas. In certain set of points, MDS determines relative configuration and location of the points, when there is information about distance of all symmetrical points even there is no information about location of the points. Refers the result from MDS operation to the standard coordinate, Procrustes (Algorithm) operates ‘Resize’ and ‘Rotate’ to calculate estimation value. With MDS and Procrustes, although there is no information about definite location, we can estimate location of the nodes by using relative location from the result of measured distance between nodes in UWASN. In actual underwater circumstances, change of acoustic wave speed is severe by various factors. Especially in underwater, acoustic wave speed vary, according to depth, temperature and salinity of water in place which UWASN is executed. For instance, acoustic wave speed in underwater is generally calculated as 1,500m/s, but in case of 1,000m depth, 30% salinity and 0 degree Celsius, acoustic wave speed becomes 1,440m/s, which is 60m/s tolerance. In case of worse conditions, tolerance is even bigger. In UWASN, acoustic wave is used to recognize location of sensor nodes. However, in case of calculating acoustic wave speed as 1,500m/s which is acoustic wave speed in general condition, the tolerance increases accordingly, and finally the result of location recognition cannot be trusted. For having closer circumstances of underwater to the real, depth, temperature and salinity of water which influence acoustic wave speed in UWASN, were considered. As a result, reliability of the experiment result is increased. We confirmed that the suggested experiment in this paper, which considers depth, temperature and salinity of water, has lower tolerance than pre-existing experiment with 1,500m/s acoustic wave speed.
