Dyslipidemia is a major risk factor of cardio-cerebrovascular disease among chronic heart disease, and it is important to diagnose and manage early in adolescence and early adulthood based on long-term developing nature of chronic diseases. Managing dyslipidemia can be divided into drug therapy and non-drug therapy which is therapeutic lifestyle changes such as regular exercise, dietary management, weight control, and emotional stability. The therapeutic lifestyle changes are effective to alleviate the burden of the cardiovascular system as well as to adjust the blood lipid. This study is the non-equivalent control pre-post design study which was attempted to develop the health promotion program for the college students who are in the boundary range of dyslipidemia, to apply it, and to identify its effect. The conceptual framework of this study was based on Cox?s interaction model. This health promotion program was consisted of background variables -the subject?s single elements, and health information, decision control, professional-technical skills, and health producing factor? the interaction elements between the subject and the health professional. The program was developed through the process that on the base of this constitution, the intervention plan was made, and then this plan passed through the validity verification of experts group. This program provided the experimental group with walking, exercise, dietary management, and health education for 8 weeks (40 minutes per week, total 8 times). The period of collecting data was from May, 11 to June, 3, 2011. The subjects for the study were selected as the students with 200~229mg/dL total cholesterol range and 150~199mg/dL triglycerides range -the dyslipidemia boundary - among 3,943people who received health checkup in K University Student Health Clinic. Concretely they were limited to those who agreed to participate in this study, have not received the medication with dyslipidemia, have no disease at doctor?s diagnosis, and have not received dyslipidemia exercise/dietary management. The experimental subjects were total 39 people who are consisted of the experimental group of 20 people and the control group of 19 people. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 18.0. The Sociological, demographic, and disease-related characteristics of the subjects were analyzed by the descriptive statistics. The verification of pre-homogeneity of the experimental group and control group was conducted by the t-test and the X2-test, the verification of the research hypothesis was analyzed by the t-test and ANOVA, and the reliability test was analyzed using Cronbach ?. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The first hypothesis: According to the verification of ?In the experimental group to whom was applied the health promotion program, compared to the control group, body mass index will be reduced? the body mass index of the experimental group (t=2.27, p=.032) had the statistically significant difference compared to the control group. So the first hypothesis was supported. 2. The second hypothesis: According to the verification of ?In the experimental group to whom was applied the health promotion program, compared to the control group, blood lipid index will be improved?, total cholesterol (t=4.69, p<.001), triglycerides (t=7.73, p<.001), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (t=3.97, p<.001), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (t=3.78, p=.001) of the experimental group had the statistically significant difference compared to those of the control group. So the second hypothesis was all supported. 3. The third hypothesis: According to the verification of ?In the experimental group to whom was applied the health promotion program, compared to the control group, mental health will be improved?, depression (t=4.42, p<.001), satisfaction with life (t=4.20, p<.001), and resilience scale (F=29.53, p<.001) of the experimental group had the statistically significant difference compared to those of the control group. So the third hypothesis was all supported. As the result of the above study the health promotion program based on Cox?s interaction model was confirmed as the effective intervention on the health improvement of the body mass, the blood lipid index, and the mental health index of the students in the boundary of the dyslipidemia. If this program will be applied to those with findings of dyslipidemia in adolescent and adult in universities and community, it will help their lifestyle be change into the healthy one, help them maintain their healthy state of body by practicing the positive health behaviors, and prevent chronic disease and cardiovascular complications leading to the adulthood and after.
