International society has been in danger of overall environmental crisis such as environmental pollution, destruction of the ozone, decrease of living creatures. Under these circumstances, Internatio -nal Environment Agreement and environmental regulation of developed countries have been strengthen, and the global awareness that international trade and industry development cannot be continued without overcoming these environmental issues has been spread. Thus, the sustainability management and the supply chain environmental management (SCEM) have come to the fore. The sustainability management which focuses on social responsibility and the value of environment can reduce managerial risks caused by economic, environmental, and social issues and become a new business strategy to develop new business opportunities. The purpose of this paper is to strengthen manufacturers’ SCEM capabilities and to suggest a strategic direction by analyzing how SCEM in manufacturers’ logistics process and the sustainability management could affect on eco-efficiency and non-financial business performance. This paper has independent variables such as “green-purchasing in procurement logistics”, “cleaner production technology in production logistics”, and “transport innovation and reverse logistics in sales logistics field”. In addition, dependent variables are “enhancement of product’s economic value”, “eco-efficiency by decreasing usage of energy, greenhouse gas, harmful materials, and natural resources”, and “non-financial performance” like improvement of quality, corporate image, and customer satisfaction. With these variables, this paper analyzes the effect on corporate performance. Significance test result of hypotheses by path analysis of structural equation modeling is as follow. In hypothesis〔H1〕in order of environment friendly transport innovation, reverse logistics management and cleaner production technology, these variables positively influence on eco-efficiency, but the effect of green-procurement activity for it has declined. Even though business environment of advanced researches are different compared to now, this is the result of an empirical research that proves green-procurement has not being executed as core business policies because of product distinction or technologic -al restrictions of each company. Manufacturers’ reverse logistics management and transport innovation absolutely affect on the improvement of product’s economic value and decrease of energy usage and greenhouse gas, and this fact coincides with advanced researches. Thus, this paper reveals that SCEM like cleaner production technology, environment friendly transport innovation, reverse logistics management directly affect eco-efficiency, and also proves these factors are selected well as independent variables. In hypothesis〔H2〕in order of reverse logistics management and green-procurement, these variables positively influence on non-financial performance, but the effect of transport innovation and cleaner production technology for it has declined. This paper analyzes that cleaner production technology and environment friendly transport innovation doesn’t make any positive impact on non-financial performance. That is because green-manuf -acturing has problems like R&D for new products, information security about raw materials and processing technologies, and additional cost and environment friendly transport innovation has problems like the limit of collaboration and difficulty of co-work with partners. The statistic result supports Hypothesis〔H3〕and〔H4〕, which assume that sustainability management has a moderator effect between SCEM and eco-efficiency/non-financial performance. This proves manufacturer’s eco-efficiency and non-financial performanc -e can be different whether the execution level of environmental, social, economic sustainability management is high or low. The significance and implications of this paper are as follows an empirical analysis. First, because vendors’ environmental issues could affect the quality of product and service, SCEM, from the perspective of manufacturer, becomes a core competency in terms of "co-evolutio -n”; more than two companies which are mutual dependent can be developed each other through this process of competition and cooperation. This means that each company exists as not only independent entity but also dependent entity, and is required to become a part of supply chain in terms of integration of divaricated values. Therefore, SCEM contributes to the determination of capacity of ecosystem as a starting point of sustainability management which can fulfill the current and future needs. Second, as core activities, environment friendly transport innovation and reverse logistics increase eco-efficiency, and this result coincides with advanced researches. That means each company has to minimize negative effects of environment in its business activities, continuing cost reduction and service improvem -ent. Third, through SCEM, recognition about the necessity of sustainability management and its execution capabilities have to be raised in terms of sustainable business performances and new business chances. Because companies who do not consider environmental management can have financial risks like decrease of brand value and sales and have a legal risk like environmental regulation. Because SCEM in manufacturing companies, compared to initial investment cost, can be profitable in long-term condition, a busines -s strategy is required to find out “sweet spot” where companies’ profitability and social benefits are harmonized each other. In order to have long-term propulsion, SCEM has to be connected with corporate business policies and sustainable business strategies, not just confining it to profit-centered business perform -ance creation. This is because SCEM has to be substantiated in each company’s business activity, product, and internal process. In the future, any companies and or any industries that ignore environment have to bear disadvantages. Rather than by the defens -ive reaction, but by the creative action to the environment industry’s global technology standard and environmental regulation, cleaner production technology has to be aggressively developed. And at the same time, drastic investments for building up SCEM system and training sustainability management professionals have to be made by the government and each company. SCEM is an opportunity for sustainable development, so each company has to consider SCEM as essential requisite of strategic management for future survival, doing away with a stereotype conc -ept like SCEM is just expenditure. Starting from SCEM, sustainability management can overcome discount in global trade environment, and a company who executes sustainability management that are to be integrated into transparent management, responsibility management, symbiosis management and environmental management in differentiated management, can be a successful model in limitless competitive market economy, having international competitiveness.
