The latest revised 2009 national education curriculum aimed to establish pleasant learning school so that excessive learning pressure on students should be decreased, but students’ interests in learning is encouraged and improved. This can be achieved not by obtaining simple knowledge and understanding centered learning, but by improving learning capability. This goal can be also reached by avoiding excessivememorization method and changing into education where creative human resources are cultivated who act out care and share with others. According to this, Music education also aims to develop creativity of each studentby stimulating interests in class with various activities. However, in the reality of Korean music education, indoctrination type of instruction given by teachers and teachers’ oriented teaching method require student to acquire only functional aspects in the class so this can be hinder development of students’ creativity. Therefore, this study has selected 1st year of a middle school with a musical piece ‘We will rock you' and attempts to suggest teaching – learning plan with physical expression with application of Orff teaching method in a way that interests and creativity in music class can be improved. Physical expression activity is a critical means of demonstrating ideas and personality of own through music. It has been widely known by Orff teaching method that physical expression activity plays a vital role in developing creativity of students as much as playing musical instrument and singing a song. The teaching –learning plan suggested in this study was examined with consultation and evaluation of 2 music teachers from C Middle School located in Kwangsan Gu, Kwangju Metropolitan city. The teaching – learning plan was designed to learn first basic rhythms which are extracted from physical expression of Orff learning medium such as tapping of feet, clapping with both hands, tapping knees and hands plucking etc. then students are encouraged to participate with some idea to make music. This is students-initiative class driven by their interests, not by teacher oriented class and then gets student to make music with their own characteristics so that their potential and hidden creativity can be developed. This class was also implemented with each group in order to give opportunity to learn sociality and mutual cooperation as well as promoting development of creativity of students. The conclusions of this study with application of Orff teaching method are as follows: First, students who are applied with Orff teaching method shows higher interests in music than those who are taught by conventional teaching method. Also they have shown creative attitude by given opportunity to make their own music with physical expression activities. Second, students who are more familiar with teachers-oriented instruction and indoctrination methodcan shows awkward in physical expression activities, whereas students who are potentially creative becomes more active and participative. Third, students can express musical imagination of themselves by making musical tones and rhythms of their own personality with their own body. Fourth, students can feel the flow of rhythms when they learn basic rhythms of physical expression then furthermore create rhythm of physical expressionand are expected to improve their sense of rhythm. Fifth, cooperative preparation among groups’ members with higher interest can promote development of creativity and also nurture sociality. Sixth, this teaching and learning plan can improve appreciation and evaluation capability about outputs made by other groups. I would like to present some suggestions based on the above research results. First, I have developed teaching-learning plan with physical expression for the 1st students at middle school who just graduatedfrom primary schools. These creative and potential and fast growing student need to be linked to concrete and systematic music lesson suitable for their development stage in the following years. Therefore, continuous researches and efforts on this subject are required. Second, weekly music class allocated in middle school is 2 hours. In reality, this allocation of music class is not sufficientfor implementing various and interesting physical expression activity. Therefore, it may need to ensure enough music class hours for improving creativity. Our music education in 21 century which focuses on nurturing advanced creative thinking is expected to be more interesting by feeling music with body through variousexperiences and activities, not by head and brain only. And these objectives can be fulfilled by more active and dynamic studies on music teaching method. Further research on new and wide range of music teaching method is expected to contribute for growth of students as a creative person.
