Henna among natural hair colorants has high safety and uses among hair and tattoo etc as colorant, but the report for coloring power from gray hair is scarcely nonexistent. Therefore, in this thesis, to find coloring method in various colors and coloring power for gray hair of natural henna, it was measured changes of chromaticity, thickness of hair, tensile strength by treating gray hair and bleached hair with the acid and alkaline condition by using oxidation hair colorants and natural brown henna as colorants for positive control, and compared and analyzed morphological changes of epidermis of hair by observing with a scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscope. As results, as for dyeing property, it was brown in green color from gray hair (I) treated with oxidation hair colorant, dark brown from gray hair (II), among gray hairs treated with three natural henna, it was bright reddish brown from gray hair treated with henna, gray hair treated with oxidation was brown in green color, gray hair treated with alkaline was slightly brighter color than gray hair treated with natural henna, and dyeing hair after bleaching black hair had similar aspects to color of dyed gray hair. After having shampoo thirty times, brightness of both of dyed gray hair and bleached hair increased than before washing, so dyeing power reduced, and among dyed hairs, hair treated with natural henna alkali increased the least brightness than hair treated with natural henna and hairs treated with oxidation hair colorants (I, II), so it was confirmed that it has the best dyeing staying power. As for thickness of hair, before having shampoo and after having shampoo thirty times, gray hairs treated with three natural henna and bleached hair were thicker than gray hairs treated with oxidation hair colorant (I, II) and bleached hair treated with oxidation hair colorant (I), and as for tensile strength was observed that it was higher than gray hairs treated with oxidation hair colorant (I, II) and bleached hair treated with oxidation hair colorant (I),so hair treated with natural henna has effects of hair coating and hair care, and among those, it was confirmed that hair treated with natural henna alkali was the most excellent. As for morphological change of epidermis of hair, the part of epidermis of hair before having shampoo was matted from gray hair treated with oxidation hair colorant (I) by floating or dissolving, and there were damages of epidermis of hair which arrangement of epidermis of hair was in disorder by desquamating dissolved epidermis of hair after having shampoo thirty times, but three hairs treated with natural henna had slight damage of epidermis of hair than gray hair treated with oxidation hair colorant (I). Bleached hair with oxidation hair colorant and bleached hairs treated with three natural hennas had serious degree of damage and morphological change of cuticles than gray hair, but the aspects were observed similarly, and among the ones treated with natural henna, the damage of gray hair treated with alkali and bleached hair had the slightest damage of hair. Therefore, it is considered that natural henna has effect of hair coating and to prevent damage. As for cuticles of hair, among gray hairs, gray hair treated with oxidation hair colorant I was coarser than gray hair treated with three natural hennas before having shampoo and after having shampoo thirty times, and hair treated with alkali was the coarsest. As for bleached hair, hair treated oxidation hair colorant before having shampoo was coarser than bleached hair treated with three natural hennas, and after having shampoo thirty times, it became less coarse than bleached hair treated with three natural hennas. Therefore, the treatment with natural henna reduced damage of hair by suppressing desquamation of cuticles of hair due to coating effects of hair, and it is considered that the reason of low coarse degree from gray hair treated oxidation was the results of desquamation and abrasion of floated cuticles of hair due to physical frictions when having shampoo. Therefore, natural henna is possible to direct various colors according to conditions of pH, it has high application in hair dyeing to be stylish of young people, and has excellent coloring power and staying power for gray hair in alkaline condition, effects of hair coating and hair care, and as the method to supplement and improve the weakness of natural henna and problems of oxidation hair colorant, so it is considered that it have very high possibility to apply at hair saloon.
