This paper aims to propose an appropriate load ratio for an evaluation of fire resistance performance for a einforcement concrete column subjected to standard fire. In other words, under the condition which a coefficient load is not locally set up during building fire, the paper is to propose a calculation method of the load ratio, and set up and propose an appropriate load ratio using a strength reduction ratio of reinforcement concrete column.
Simple calculation model of the Eurocode has been used for the establishment of the load ratio. To do this, a fire resistance test of a reinforcement concrete column with a general strength exposed to standard fire has been carried out to calculate an available cross section and strength residual ratio of the reinforcement concrete column and based on the test results, the load ratio has been settled.
For the fire resistance test to secure a temperature history data of the reinforcement concrete column, unstressed load test has been carried out along with the load test and the temperature history attained from the test has been used for the prediction of the strength residual ratio and the fire resistance performance of the reinforcement concrete column using 500℃ isotherm method of EN 1992-1-2.
The Chapter 5 summarizes the concept of the load ratio and proposes the setting method of the load ratio. The load ratio has been calculated with the classification of a general strength and high strength concrete. The load ratio of the concrete column with the general strength has been compared to the load ratio of the standard section column assumed from a isotherm diagram of EN 1992-1-2 and the feasibility of the load ratio settled has been additionally reviewed based on the second loading fire resistant test. For the load ratio of reinforcement concrete column with high strength, the strength reduction ratio has been estimated using a calculation factor of an available cross section in accordance with EN 1992-1-2 and based on the reduction ratio, 60MPa and 80MPa, the load ratio for high strength column has been indicated. The overall research results can be summarized as follows.
1) The more weight loss of the reinforcement concrete exposed to the high temperature is, the less cross section is shown and the more the cover depth increases, the more fire resistance performance is beneficial due to a gentle variation of the reinforcement temperature in the temperature interpretation method of unloading fire resistant test. But an influence on the final mean temperature of the main reinforcement has been shown that an influence of cross section size is higher than the cover depth in case that over 40 mm cover depth is secured.
2) For a small size reinforcement concrete column exposed to high temperature, a reinforcement highly dedicated to securing of an axial compressive strength and the more cross section is large, the more concrete's dedication increases. Concrete strength is not highly connected to the strength reduction of the concrete column during the fire. Also, the concrete cover depth is nothing to do with the strength reduction of the concrete column but, if the cross section is small, it shows that the increase of the cover depth is positively influenced on the maintaining of the column strength.
3) The strength reduction of reinforcement is affected by the cover depth so that the strength reduction of the reinforcement shows a high ratio for the high strength concrete, raising high concerns of spalling. Therefore, the countermeasure is required. High correlation between the increase of the column cross section and the strength residual ratio of the column is shown and the more cross section is large, the strength residual ratio of the column is in linearly direct proportion.
4) The load ratio of the reinforcement concrete column has been defined with the ratio of residual axial compressive strength during the exposure to the fire for an axial compressive strength in a normal temperature. As a result of an estimation of the load ratio with the 300×300㎜ standard cross section setting for the evaluation of fire resistance performance, the load ratio of the reinforcement concrete column with a general strength was 0.46 and 60MPa and 80MP for the load ratio of the reinforcement concrete column with a high strength showed 0.43 and 0.35 respectively.
5) 0.46 load ratio of the reinforcement concrete column with a general strength can be supplemented by more test data and feasible analysis data. There is a limitation that the effect such as slenderness ratio by reducing available member cross section is not incorporated but, it can be assessed that there is no problem for its usage in case that certain conservatism is taken into account in the side of the setting up of the general standard applied to the evaluation.
6) In conclusion, it is reasonable that the load ratio is determined around 0.45 during the evaluation of fire resistance performance of the reinforcement concrete column. For the High strength concrete relatively more low load ratio is matched but load ratio should be applicated as a common index for evaluating fire resistant performance of members.
7) The load ratio of the reinforcement concrete column proposed in this paper may be referred for henceforth relating research development and setting up a load combination and load factor during the fire for Korean Building Code. And can be applied to the performance evaluation and used for policy improvement in accordance with the high strength concrete control standard.
