The recent construction trends in our country are large scale ultra-high rise building, major exhibition halls and complex shopping malls with complex shapes. As buildings are becoming larger in scale, higher in level and more complex in function because of the centralization and diversification in the form of usage, fire in these buildings causes significant casualties through heat, toxic gas and smoke. The performance-based Fire Design, which was implemented recently in our country as a countermeasure against the risks, requires fire & evacuation simulation in order to ensure fire safety performance as a design that surpasses the minimum level of fire safety performance designed according to regulation on fire safety standards. The current evacuation simulation program performs evacuation simulation by using information on temperature, toxic gas and smoke that are created from fire. Toxic gas that is the biggest cause of fire casualties is very important but there are only very few studies on the effects of toxic gas on evacuation during evacuation simulation. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to present a direction for improving evacuation program by examining the characteristics of fire during the fire breakout at major exhibition halls and the characteristics of evacuation such as evacuation time and number of casualties by applying fractional effective dose appropriate for adults, men, women, children and seniors, as well as comparing the simulation results between the fractional effective dose applied in existing evacuation program and the revised fractional effective dose. In this thesis, the following results were obtained from performing the simulation. Men with the quickest walking speed showed the quickest evacuation time, while seniors with the slowest walking speed took the longest evacuation time. The result of the revised evacuation program. Showed the variance of fractional effective dose among the evacuation subjects of adults, men, women, children and seniors and it showed difference compared to the result of fractional effective dose that was applied in the existing evacuation program. The number of casualties also varied respectively. Although the number of casualties was the same in every case in the existing evacuation program, it was quite different in each case in the revised evacuation program developed in this study. Application of the revised fractional effective dose in future evacuation simulation will produce more accurate results according to the evacuation subject.
