Holography is an unique technology that can express high quality 3D visual information in human-friendly way. Traditional optical holography technology is implemented by recording amplitude and phase information into high resolution film and displaying them using coherent ray, such as laser. Optical holography has been developing into digital holography which digitally creates interference pattern of object and displays the image with spatial light modulator(SLM). Unlike optical holography which directly illuminates an object with laser, digital holography extracts 3D information from multiple 2D cameras. Computer-generated hologram(CGH) calculates 3D information in order to get interference pattern that recorded on hologram. Typically, multiple cameras are used to get 3D image data. However, it is hard to get quality of 3D data when 3D data is created from 2D images from various angles because the geometrical structure of alignment becomes complicated. In order to overcome the weakness of the geometrical structure, a new technology that utilizes object’s depth information has been suggested. There are several available methods to find depth information: using disparity information of two images filmed using a stereo camera, using depth camera of time of flight (TOF) method, using 3D modeling software, using 3D scanner, and using Microsoft Kinect. However, using expensive hardware device is inevitable to get a high resolution depth information. This research used Microsoft Kinect and Canon EOS 7D DSLR camera to obtain high resolution 3D visual information. Visual images from the sensors was extracted and matched to get high resolution depth information. Parameters that required for producing digital hologram were extracted from the depth information and were used to generate computer-generated hologram and holographic stereogram. Since Microsoft Kinect only produces low resolution depth information and Canon EOS 7D DSLR camera produces high resolution RGB image, the depth information from the Kinect was expanded before matching with the RGB image from the Canon camera. Throughout this process, the depth information and the RGB images were calibrated. The depth information with high resolution was generated through projective matching to the RGB images from the camera. Then depth information was assigned to generate point cloud. Digital hologram of high resolution realistic image was implemented by producing computer generated hologram and holographic stereogram using obtained point cloud. The computer-generated hologram used the point source hologram production method which assigns coordinates to each point cloud. Then the reference beam applied plane wave for easy calculation and it was restored using computer. Also, 46 viewpoint images having horizontal parallax were extracted from the obtained depth information to produce holographic stereogram. The extracted multi-view images were sequentially up-loaded to record into optical film and display using liquid crystal spatial light modulator. The result of the experiment using the suggested system showed that it is possible to obtain depth information of high resolution and produce high quality digital hologram. Therefore, it is expected that digital hologram will be applied to various application areas which makes hologram of real object.
