The longitudinal relation between engaging positive emotion, disengaging positive emotion and social connectedness원문보기

Based on Fredrickson's(2000) broaden and build theory and Kitayama, Markus, & Kurokawa's(1999) cultural constructivist perspective on emotion, this study has compared engaging positive emotion and disengaging positive emotion with upward-spiral relation of social connectedness. To examine this, two hundred eight college students participated to complete self-report surveys on engaging positive emotion, disengaging positive emotion, and social connectedness, which were measured twice with five-week interval. Data analysis was conducted by using single regression analysis and hierarchial regression analysis in accordance with the research method Fredrickson & Joiner(2002) and Burns(2008) had performed. The results showed that engaging positive emotion predicted the increase of social connectedness. however, disengaging positive emotion did not predict the increase of social connectedness. And social connectedness predicted the increase of both engaging positive emotion and disengaging positive emotion. Furthermore, engaging positive emotion and social connectedness demonstrated upward-spiral relation which mutually influenced each other's increases as time passed by. Yet, disengaging positive emotion and social connectedness did not demonstrate upward-spiral relation. The results of this study has empirically examined broaden and build theory and confirmed the difference that comes from cultural distinctions of upward spiral relation among engaging positive emotion, disengaging positive emotion, and social connectedness.
