Tensegrity which is a compound of "tension" and "integrity" maintains a statically stable structure by force equilibrium with bars and strings. When it applies to robotics, it is important whether this structure is statically stable or not. In this dissertation, we identify the relationships between prestress, stiffness matrix, and external force based on interpretation of system through a static analysis. Using the concept of the extended Maxwell's rule, we can determine structural determinacy which is known by a difference between the numbers of prestress modes and mechanisms in terms of the numbers of bars, strings, and constraints. However, it is difficult to find out the possible combinations of numbers of prestress and mechanism directly. In this dissertation, we provide a way to easily obtain those combinations by using a equilibrium matrix. The corresponding external forces can be determined for the structure members to have a statically stable structure for combination. Thus getting a proper equilibrium matrix is a fundamental step to take. Inextensional mechanisms can be divided into finite mechanisms and infinitesimal mechanisms. Finite mechanisms are those where the nodes can move freely with no change of the members, and infinitesimal mechanisms are those where infinitesimal changes in length of the members occur when the nodes move. This paper propose a different method to distinguish mechanisms by using the stiffness matrix's eigenvalue and to define infinitesimal mechanisms and finite mechanisms. It is necessary to analyze a effect of structure, when external force is applied, about how it is going to be deformed. We identify the directions of external forces which cannot be withstood against combinations of member forces. and this confirms how many modes of prestresses and/or deformations of the structure. Traditional method to get stiffness matrix requires a great deal of calculations. Specially, tensegrity structure needs a large amount of computation in order to obtain the stiffness matrix to be used in a complicated application like in robotics. Therefore, to reduce computation time, we propose a simpler method to obtain it. Finally, in order to confirm the validity of the theory, we numerically verify them through a simple tensegrity prism and show the equality between the conventional stiffness matrix and the stiffness matrix proposed in this study, and convenience of the proposed one. Finally we check the condition of the static stability, the relationship between external forces and initial self-stress, and the interpretation of the meaning of the eigenvalue.
