This research is to recognize and understand the expectations for the work of dental hygienists from dentist when performing their dental work, and to find problems of the current dental hygienist and explore ways to examine through the empirical analysis, the efficient management of business cooperation between dentists and dental hygienists.
The survey for this study started from October 10th, 2012 to November 4th at general hospitals to dentists who work with dental hygienists in Seoul and Gyeonggi, Chungcheong region (including university hospitals) and private hospitals. 200 questionnaires were distributed and 149 of them were collected. The collected data were conducted through statistical analysis using SPSS ver.12.0. The survey results can be summarized as follows:
First, dentists were recognized that dentists and dental hygienists did not cooperate for the recognition of business cooperation dentist in general.
Second, the analysis on the conflict at work, between dentists and dental hygienists were having disagreement as part of institutional significant differences were found (=12.127, p<0.05). In general hospital, 43.9% was higher in case of patient care, the case of a private hospital showed 54.8% showed higher because they do not get along when they give medical treatments to patients.
Also the problems of dentists and dental hygienists belong to significant institutional differences(=13.296, p<0.05).
The case of private hospitals high turnover is the highest (59.5%) but at general hospital, the high turnover rate is 29.4 percent, lower than private hospitals.
Third, results of the analysis for the recognition of dental hygienists working for a dentist, there were significant differences on questions about the presence of the separation of duties between dentists and dental hygienists by respondent's career.( =10.631, p<0.05)
'No' response was higher when the career of the respondents who had less than 5years of experience. In addition, significant differences appear as part of respondents' institution (=23.317, p<0.001) at general hospital, the answer of 'No' was 58.9% higher but in a private hospital, the answer of 'Yes' was 85.4% higher.
Fourth, the analysis on dental hygienist, the 3-5 year part is the most appropriate response in dental cooperation, in the area of counseling and management of patients with oral health education for 5-10 year, 5-10 years in the field of hospital administration and management was perceived to be appropriate. Based on the results of such studies, dental hygienist is to actively improve medical service quality and customer satisfaction for improvement in the work of a dental hygienist for the future.
In addition, the dentists s required to change the perception of education and understanding about the work of the dental hygienists. It is critical that improving the organization culture as well as mutual business about understanding and concern, and the work of the adjustment of the conflict that can occur.
