Recently, households with three generations or more are rare in Korea, and 3 to 4 person households are also on the decline. However, one-person households are steadily increasing, which are expected to be Korea's representative family type in the future. Due to such increase, there is a rising need for small living spaces and urban-type residence, and flexibility grounds are being suggested for development of interior grounds and efficient space utilization. As such, the government proposed a new medium and long-term housing policy. "We've decided to expand the supply of flexibility-type residence, reflecting the life cycle of small housing for 1 to 2 person households and the elderly." "The purpose is not just an utilization for partial housing lease, but to broaden the consumer choices." This research conducted a survey on characteristics of flexibility housing forms, which are consumer-friendly, preferred by young people, and will broaden the consumer choices, and analyzed the forms tailored for one-person households, which were limited to young generations (20s to 30s). The research looked at the following factors. First, it theoretically explored the subject matter with focus on the status of one-person households, more than half of which represented by young generations (20s to 30s). Second, the study classified the variables and components of flexibility housing forms. Third, the study compared the differences in characteristics of flexibility forms between domestic and foreign residences by analyzing the examples and components of actual housing of 65㎡ or less. Fourth, based on the differences between domestic and foreign residences, the preferred characteristics of flexibility forms for young generations (20s to 30s) were surveyed to explore and analyze the characteristics designed for young people and to apply them to housing components. Finally, the preferred characteristics of flexibility forms for one-person households of young generations (20s to 30s) are suggested in order to be applied to interior space. This research is intended to raise awareness of features of flexibility housing forms and present the possibility of applying them to one-person household residence of young generations. As a result, the study can be used as a guideline for designing flexibility living spaces for one-person households of young generations (20s to 30s).
