In this study, 30 male and females in their 20s to 40s performed 8 sessions of home skincare, twice per week for 4 weeks, in order to examine the effect of deep cleansing with salt scrub. The subjects were divided into the oil group who used jojoba oil (10 people), the salt group who used 0.2g of baked salt (10 people), and the salt and oil group who used jojoba oil and 0.2g of baked salt (10 people). Preliminary survey was conducted regarding general characteristics and deep cleansing. In order to examine the skin condition, the number of dead skin cells, moisture, oil, micro-organism, number of pores, melanin, and red spots were measured in the first week and 2 and 4 weeks later. After the study, a survey was conducted to measure subjective satisfaction. The reduction of number of dead skin cells was significant in the salt group and salt and oil group (p<0.01), proving the salt and oil mixture effective. The moisture increase was significant in the T-zone and U-zone of the salt group, and U-zone of the salt and oil group (p<0.05), proving salt effective for hydration. Oil reduction was significant in the T-zone and U-zone of the salt group (p<0.05). Reduction of microorganism was significant in the salt group and salt and oil group (p<0.01), proving salt effective. The reduction of number of pores was not significant in any group. The melanin reduction was significant in the salt group (p<0.05). The red spot reduction was significant in the oil group (p<0.05). In the subjective satisfaction survey, it said that salt gives a little stinging but does not irritate the skin after cleansing. For the question ‘I will continue deep cleansing after the study,’ the salt group and salt and oil group showed high satisfaction. This study suggested that salt reduces dead skin cells, micro-organisms, oil, and melanin, and increases moisture, without irritating the skin. A long-term study seems necessary for the number of pores, red spots, and skin troubles, as well as regarding the amount of salt and skin types.
