Nowadays, many studies have been done on the simplification of the actual business process and modularization of numerous materials in the construction industry in order to improve the efficiency of a variety of processes. As a result, Quality and Defect management performed on construction sites have become increasingly important. Currently, quality management on construction site has been done by site managers and inspectors through their visual senses. However, it is not possible for a handful of site managers and inspectors to perform efficient quality management based on the progress of project processes on construction site. Thus, inspections are often omitted, resulting in faulty construction and quality degradation which may necessitate rework. This may adversely affect project costs and schedule. This study carried out the following steps: 1) the present status of defect management was identified through interviews conducted through three construction site visits in Korea, 2) existing problems were identified, and then a plan to improve the defect management process on construction site was made, 3) a computing-based image-matching system and a mobile-based AR defect management application (DeMAR) were developed, 4) to review the applicability of defect management process on construction sites, an lab-test applying Image matching method and computing-based AR technology and a construction site test utilizing the DeMAR was carried out on a construction site in progress.
