Fabrication and Characterization of Electrolyte Thin Films by Electron-Beam Vapor Deposition Technique for IT-SOFCs원문보기

이를 ASR(area specific resistance)로 나타내면 9.1Ωcm2, 10.28Ωcm2가 된다.

Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) has been attracted attention as the alternative energy source because of its high energy conversion efficiency, fuel flexibility and emissions of low environmental pollutants. However, the high operating temperatures (up to 1000℃) of typical SOFCs with stabilized zirconia (YSZ) as electrolyte introduces a series of problems such as reactivity between cell component, electrode sintering, expensive interconnecting material and sealing materials. Consequently, lowering the operating temperature less than 700℃ is necessary for practical application of SOFCs. In order to lower the operating temperature of SOFCs, reducing the thickness of electrolyte and developing new electrolyte materials with high ionic conductivity at low-temperatures have been considered. In this study, SOFC electrolyte thin films were prepared by electron beam vapor deposition technique and their structural, morphological, and electrochemical properties were analyzed. As model electrolytes, ScSZ, LSGM and BZCYYb were used. The electrolyte powders were synthesized using ammonium carbonate co-precipitation method. They were pressed into pellets and sintered. The thin films were fabricated by e-beam technique using the sintered electrolyte pellet as evaporating materials. To find the optimum conditions of the e-beam operation, the influence of e-beam deposition parameters, such as gun power, substrate temperature, substrate type, annealing temperature, and film thickness were investigated. The crystal structure and microstructure of the thin films were analyzed using XRD, SEM, and FTIR. The ion conductivity of the thin electrolyte films were analyzed using impedance analyzer. A good adhension of electrolyte on the substrate and a columnar structure were observed from the cross-sectional view of the ScSZ, LSGM, and BZCYYb electrolyte films on SiO2 wafer and NiO anode substrate. It was found that annealing was critical to obtain dense electrolyte films. The ionic conductivity of the thin films of ScSZ and LSGM were 7.41x10-3 S/cm, 2.06×10-3 S/cm with activation energy of , respectively. The corresponding ASR (area specific resistance) of the thin films of ScSZ and LSGM were 9.1Ωcm2, 10.28Ωcm2, respectively. No significant compositional changes was occured during to the vapor deposition process. Generally, the ion conductivity of the thin film increased as film thickness and gun power increased. The ionic conductivity of BZCYYb thin film was observed to be 1.14×10-2 S/cm at 700℃ with activation energy of 0.89eV. The corresponding ASR (area specific resistance) was 6.87Ωcm2. The result collectively indicated that the e-beam deposition technique can be applied for the preparation of thin electrolyte films for low temperature SOFCs after optimization of e-beam operating conditions and control of the electrolyte film thickness.
