In this study, elderly learners were divided into two groups — one of which was shown educational videos and the other not — to discover whether providing supplementary educational videos improves academic achievement, learning satisfaction, and learning immersion. The study aims to explore ways to establish educational videos as effective teaching tools for informatization and computer utilization training for the elderly. The most crucial aspect of learning for the elderly is how to draw out the learners' abilities to the fullest extent. Two of the most important elements here are to eliminate tension and anxiety from the learning situation and provide a sufficient amount of time for elderly learners to respond. Educational videos can help as they allow elderly learners to access the material at their own leisure and convenience. The test subjects were provided with on-line educational videos produced by instructors working in specific educational fields and identical in content to face-to-face classes, with the aim of allowing elderly learners to access the material in a manner free from constraints in time and location, and conducive to just-in-time (JIT) learning and iterative learning Control (ILC). Accordingly, the proposed research problems were verified by comparing the progress in learning by the two groups and confirming the statistical significance of the results. The research problems addressed in the study were: first, whether the group of elderly learners provided with on-line educational videos would show a difference in academic achievement compared to the group not provided with this resource; second, whether the two groups would show a difference in their learning satisfaction; and third, whether the two groups would show a difference in their learning immersion. Thirty-six elderly learners were divided into two groups of eighteen subjects each, with the first group receiving face-to-face classes only and the second group receiving both face-to-face classes together with educational videos, after which the learning effects displayed by the two groups were measured based on levels of academic achievement, learning satisfaction, and learning immersion. The educational videos were uploaded to a dedicated website (www.eorsin.net), where subjects could access them at all times, repeatedly and at their own pace, thus allowing them to supplement their study times and finish any remaining issues. The study failed to discover a significant effect on academic achievement from the provision of educational videos to elderly learners, but positive effects were detected with regard to learning satisfaction and learning immersion. While the limited number of subjects and short duration of the testing render generalization of these results difficult, the study offers useful insights for the design and activation of strategies for incorporating videos into informatization education for elderly learners.
