Methods : The subjects of this study were 10 patients diagnosed as having non-fluent aphasia, and the experiment was conducted for 30 minutes per session twice a week in a total of 18 sessions over 9 weeks. In order to examine the effects of the, Melodic Intonation Therapy the K-WAB, U-TAP, and the SS-QOL were carried out before and after the program. Results : The subjects’ verbal ability of repeating was improved from the pre-program score of 39.7 to the post-program score of 48.8 (p<0.05). Their verbal ability of naming was improved from the pre-program score of 50.1 to the post-program score of 61.5 (p<0.05). The precision of articulation was improved from the pre-program score of 90.7 to the post-program score of 95.6 (p<0.05). The total score of quality of life increased from 132.0 before the program to 157.7 after it (p<0.05). Enhancement of the capacity of repeating turned out to improve quality of life. Conclusions : We can tell that the melodic intonation therapy enhances patients’capacities of repeating, naming, and articulation among other verbal abilities, as well as quality of life.
