Carotid ultrasonography is one of the methods used for early diagnosis of cardio-cerebrovascular disease. The American Society of Cardiology recommends the measurement of IMT as the only method of noninvasive image examination to examine cardiovascular system risk factors. Also it is not limited to a special patient compared to other test methods of cardio-cerebrovascular disease, and there is no resistance to radiation and accompaniment of pain because of the noninvasive method. Therefore this study aims to evaluate the relation between IMT and underlying disease, family history, general features (age, gender), life habit factors (obesity, smoking, drinking, exercise) and clinical characteristics (blood pressure, hemoglobin, blood sugar, cholesterol, HDL, LDL, TG) and to investigate compliance with former studies for 700 patients in the Korea Association of Health Promotion in Chungcheongbuk-do from Oct. 1, 2012 to Mar. 31. 2013. The subjects are male 442(63.1%) and female 258(36.9%). IMT increases in aged, smokers and patients with underlying disease(p<.001). As clinical characteristics, the higher the blood sugar is, the higher the increase in IMT is; and the higher LDL is, the thicker IMT is (p<0.01). The result from the multivariate analysis with IMT and underlying disease, family history, general features (age, gender), life habit factors (obesity, smoking, drinking, exercise) or clinical characteristics (blood pressure, hemoglobin, blood sugar, cholesterol, HDL, LDL, TG) through carotid ultrasonography is that the male sex, older age, high BMI, smokers and high LDL cholesterol are influenced by IMT.
