This study aims to classify the types of injury-psychology and coping strategies of combat sports athletes and to explore the subjectivity and also understand the characteristics of strategies through comparative analysis among types via Q-methodology. Open-ended questionnaires were devised from literature reviews and coach interviews, and surveys were conducted with 150 combat sports national team members to collect data. The factors extracted by the open-ended questionnaire were constructed based on the Q-samples, and 22 combat sports athletes who have experienced injuries during their career were selected for the P-sample. The results were obtained through a PC-QUANL Program. Analysis results are as follows; injury-psychology and coping strategy of combat sports athletes were categorized under three types: 『Negative Psychology to return-Physical coping strategy』, 『Positive Psychology to injury-Psychology·Physical coping strategy』, 『Emotional Psychology to injury-Passive coping strategy』. The common views expressed through the categorization of combat sports athletes were desires for fast-recovery and return, as well as concerns about the secondary injury and performance decrease. It is also observed that psychological problems, such as absent-mindedness and anxiety, were accompanied by physical problems and that athletes wanted to be able to maintain life as athletes. The first type, 『Negative Psychology to return-Physical coping strategy』, has negative psychology to return, while having a strong preference of a psychological coping strategy to a physical one. This type in particular showed relatively high concerns over the secondary injury upon returning, as well as high concerns over the performance decrease during the treatment period. This type had difficulty maintaining a positive mind, and had strong tendencies to overcome the injury through a physical coping strategy including a focus on rehabilitation and maintaining steady care of the body. The second type, 『Positive Psychology to injury-Psychology·Physical coping strategy』, has maintained a relatively stable state of mind compared to other types, with a positive attitude. This type also showed distinguished characteristics of adopting active coping strategies to solve psychological and physical problems resulting from injury. This type is considered as the desirable type for maintaining a stable state of mind and resulting in positive effects on return and fast recovery through a positive state of mind and active adoption of the psychology·physical coping strategy. The third type, 『Emotional Psychology to injury-Passive coping strategy』, shows highly emotional reactions to the injury and also shows characteristics of the passive coping strategy. This type reveals psychological problems right after injury showing emotional reactions including absent-mindedness, anxiety, and anger. Even though this type tries to maintain a positive mind, an unstable state of mind brings passive adoption of the coping strategy. Complex problems are caused due to injury, and the absence of suitable coping strategies for dealing with these problems negatively impacted athletes. Therefore, maintaining a positive state of mind with an active coping strategy is vital for this type. As the result of this research, the types of Injury-Psychology and coping strategies of combat sports athletes were classified as three categories and various Psychological·Physical problems were observed in all categories. Therefore, this study will be able to offer effective coping strategies based on identified types of combat sports athletes and promote and also to promote fast-recovery and return.
