Korean version of Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly(K-PASE)질문지를 사용하였으며, 연구목적 및 질문지 내용을 숙지한 측정요원이 질문하고 대상자가 응답하는 방식으로 진행되었다.

This study aimed at presenting ways for the elderly to achieve successful aging through regular physical activities by measuring the degree of their physical activities and verifying the effects of physical activity-related variables on their physical activities. The subjects of this study included a total of 350 elderly people aged 65 and more, 85 men and 252 women, in Seoul. In order to identify the degree of elderly people's physical activities and decisive factors, the Godin Leisure Time Exercise Question (GLTEQ) and Korean version of Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (K-PASE) were used. All the collected data were analyzed using IBM SPSS 20.0 Version, and typeⅠerror(α), was set at .05. A descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, t-test, and one-way ANOVA were performed, and Scheffé post hoc tests were carried out. For the correlation analysis between the questionnaire on physical activities and physical activity-related variables, the Spearman correlation was estimated.
The results of the study are as follows. First, elderly men scored lower than elderly women in the amount of high intensity physical activity of the GLTEQ (t=-2.364, p<.05) and received higher results than their female counterparts in a total score of the amount of physical activity (t=2.930, p<.01), leisure activity (t=2.923, p<.01), and vocational physical activity (t=2.020, p<.05). Second, the verification of the difference in the amount of physical activity according to the educational background and income level found that the results from the GLTEQ did not show any significant difference. However, the results from the K-PASE demonstrated significant difference in the amounts of all physical activities between groups (p<.01), indicating that the elderly people carried out more physical activities as they had higher educational background and income level. Third, the verification of the difference in the amount of physical activity according to whether to use public transportation found that the results from the GLTEQ showed no significant difference. The results from the K-PASE, however, showed significant difference in the amounts of all physical activities, except for vocational physical activity, between groups, and those who used public transportation had more physical activity (p<.01). Fourth, the group that had regularly participated in the exercise turned out to have fewer exercise barriers than the group who had not. Fifth, the group who had not been hurt from a fall turned out to have fewer exercise barriers than the group who had been (t=-.3.325, p<.001). Sixth, the results from the correlation analysis between the GLTEQ and physical activity-related variables showed that the amount of physical activity was negatively related with most of exercise barriers (ρ=-.117~-.384), whereas it was relatively highly correlated with the number of conducting regular exercise (ρ=.358-.562).
Seventh, the results from the correlation analysis between the K-PASE and physical activity-related variables demonstrated that the amount of physical activity was correlated with regular participation in exercise (ρ=247~.423).
This study, therefore, found that the educational background, income and whether to use public transportation had effects on the amount of elderly people's physical activity and that whether to live with someone else and whether to have the experience of being hurt from a fall were important in regard with exercise barriers, a physical activity-related variable.
