Systematic theology develops theological system based on the theological methods suggested by different theologians. Herman Bavinck is one of the three greatest Calvinist theologians and is a very influential in Reformed Christianity. However, studies on his theology which have been done so far seem to lack evidences to determine whether his theology followed theological methods. In this study, the theological methods from his book Reformed Dogmatics Ⅰ were examined along with theological principle, revelation and the Scripture based on the theological methods. The theological methods from each pre-eminent theologian have limits and problems. However, the synthetic-genetical method suggested by Bavinck tracks and reinterprets the occurrence of dogmas based on the Scripture, accepts both the words and the facts from the Scripture and makes a connection between them. The elements needed for the method, Church confession, Christian ritual and the Scripture should be considered synthetically. Through this method the Scripture helps each dogma to be perceived systematically and organically. Bavinck developed the theological principle through the synthetic-genetical method. The principle of theology can be divided into the principle of existence, the principle of external perception and the principle of internal perception. First, all the principle of existence is God, the knowledge of God is acquired only by God and through God. Second, the principle of external perception is God's revelation, and if a human being knows God, it means that somehow God reveals Himself. Third, the principle of internal perception is the faith through illumination by the Holy Spirit. He sees this principle of theological perception as Trinitarianism. The revelation, which is the principle of external perception, is divided into general revelation and special revelation. General revelation is that God has been revealed in the nature and histories. Human beings cannot realize this because of their sins. special revelation is the Scripture. God's will is revealed in general revelation which can be realized by human beings through the Scripture. Christ is the center of special revelation. The Scripture expresses God's revelation with languages which are limited tools. Through the Scripture, the past revelations have become history. The relation between the Scripture, revelation and theology is organic and the ultimate goal of theology is to glorify God. The Scripture is inspired to be written by revelation through the Holy Spirit. Revelation has a priority over inspiration. Inspiration was necessary when the Scripture was written. Revelation and inspiration should be related with each other, yet should not be identified nor divided. The organic inspirational theory means that the Scripture is written in the organical relationship between human writers and the Holy Spirit. It proves that the Scripture embraces both the divine and the human and all the Scripture was written from the same perspective. The Scripture has divine authority and proves itself to be so. For human salvation, the Scripture is needed and anyone who reads the Scripture can have a clear understanding without the help of others. In the Scripture, every stage of salvation is described and along with everything needed words for salvation and faith. The theology of Bavinck is systematic, organic and unified in his presentation each dogma by utilizing the synthetic-genetical methods. However, studies on whether the theological external principle organically corresponds to the internal principle remains to be examined.
