This research presents several models as a typology, in regards to the advance of Korean Animation Industry into Chinese market, with studies and analysis on such examples. The study also suggests solutions for present problems by analyzing merits and demerits of each case. The research method includes, firstly, the advancement and market condition of both Korean and Chinese animation industry, and secondly, the comparison on similarities and dissimilarities between Korean and Chinese animation industry. Furthermore, the study demonstrates change processes and current states of promotion policy for both Korean and Chinese animation industry, as well as similarities and dissimilarities to animation policies of Korean and Chinese governments. Currently, Korean animation industry is being considered as an 'emerging animation powerhouse' as its main business format was converted from subcontracting animation production into creating intellectual properties with original animations. If people find the possibility of great success of Korean culture contents, through rapidly increasing practical examples, and if people can recognize 'The K-wave' (Korean wave) is sweeping over Asian countries, it is absolutely certain that China is the most attractive market to advance. Therefore, 'Advance into Chinese market' needs to be considered as a subject of deeper studies, and to be observed with multilateral and macroscopic perspective. From the standpoint of China, Korea is the country with full of premium contents which has creative planning ability as well as new-media based technology. Compare than China, where is under the socialism system, the development and the operation of cultural contents industry are well-managed and well-maintained in Korea. From the point of view of Korea, on the other hand, China is the country which they must advance into. China has great potentialities of 'amalgamation of cultures' and 'accompanied growth', which involves the enormous domestic market, similar cultural background of 'Northeast Asian culture', and the geographic proximity, especially to Korea Chinese animation industry is rapidly growing, and being recognized as a national future growth industry with strong and continuous promotion policy from Chinese government. Chinese animation market is being magnified as the most important market for its scale and the growing speed, not only with the existence of the huge domestic market made by 1.3 billion population, but also with various factors, including the increased major consumer group by recent 'two-kids' policy, which used to be a 'one-kid' policy. With these circumstances, the research presents study analysis on the past examples of advance of Korean animation industry into Chinese market, and suggests several strategies for Korean animation industry, in order to invigorate its advance into China, in conclusion. The typology of the advance of Korean animation industry into Chinese market can be roughly categorized into three types. First, the joint production (co-production) between Korea and China. This type involves many cases which Korea and China make cooperative investment, and produce animations together. As 'the Korea-China joint film production pact' was made on September 2014, now those co-produced works are adjudged as 'domestic products', by each government. Those animations which are adjudged as 'domestic products' can benefit all policy supports and tax benefits from its own government. The second type is, the localization strategy to China, meaning Korean companies establish companies in China and carry out the business there. Chinese government executes strong protection policies on its own animation, and as in results, the number of imported foreign animations is extremely limited, and broadcasting them on prime time is prohibited. With this given situation, there are cases of licensing business through 'the new media', which incorporates internet websites, smart phone applications, etc. This type can be considered as an active and aggressive type of the advancement into Chinese market. Lastly, there is a type of 'end products exportation', meaning the advance into Chinese market with already completed animations. The type involves already finished works or the business rights of pre-production the works to be transferred to trusted Chinese partner. Depends on terms and conditions of the agreement, this type could guarantee continuous profit shares, and possibilities to advance into global market together. Through the typology and analysis mentioned above, this research comprehends merits and demerits of each business model, and presents a strategy to vitalize the Chinese market, based on Chinese national animation policies, as well as the structure and the movement of Chinese animation market, as follows. Firstly, animation co-production between Korea and China should be energized through amicable partnerships with China. As explained co-produced works are now recognized as 'domestic' in both countries, and this 'domestic' works can receive all benefits, including all the political and financial supports from both Korean and Chinese government. Joint advance into the global market is also possible, with this business model. The second strategy is the exhaustive localization with thorough understandings of the Chinese animation industry and its market. This strategy includes Korean animation companies establish local corporations in China, develop Chinese contents preferred by consumers in China, and mange license business. The point of this strategy is about make the best use of the advantage of the local management in China. Last one is to use new media in China as a path of Korean animation to enter the Chinese market. As foreign animations have many obstacles to be aired on Chinese TV broadcast, exposing Korean animations through new media should be promoted actively as an alternative to Chinese TV broadcast and theater. Also, with diversification of the revenue models, various new media such as mobile portals, other than existing internet VOD services, should also be exploited. The change in broadcasting systems including on-line and mobile services, will provide opportunities to develop the new profit model, not only for Chinese animation industry, but also for Korean animation industry. The purpose of this research is to help Korean animation industry successfully advance into Chinese market, with above mentioned strategies. In order to accomplish that purpose, the study is based on the result derivation and comparisons on the flow and the current status of animation promotion policies in Korea and China. Also it presents realistic market activation plan, analyzing case studies with examples of advance into China, up to date. Although the ultimate goal of these strategies is to help Korean animation industry develop, it shall not be ignored to help Chinese animation industry as well, because these types of business structures cannot last long, if Korea and China fail to make an accompanied growth. Korea is interested in the huge Chinese domestic market and wants to utilize production systems in China. China needs to develop various creative contents, and to advance into global market. The methodology of accompanied growth of Korea and China needs to be discussed continuously, in order to make it a win-win situation for all, meeting the demand of Chinese market. Eventually, these efforts will suggest new directions for the development of Korean animation industry, Chinese animation industry and, furthermore, animation industry of the world.
