This study aimed at identifying the effect of audio-explained broadcasting on acquisition and understanding of information by and the levels of satisfaction and interest of the visually impaired persons when they were exposed to the audio-explained broadcasting, and the degree of support by the visually impaired persons to the policies related to audio-explained broadcasting through the experimental research. Total of 144 visually impaired persons and 71 non-impaired persons participated in the experiment. An 11-minute long drama composed of parts where the audio-explanation was not provided, partially provided and entirely provided was used as the test material. The experiment was conducted by employing the one-way ANOVA which measured the dependent variable (acquisition and understanding of information, level of satisfaction and interest and degree of support to the policies related to audio-explained broadcasting) under the audio-explained broadcasting (not provided, partially provided and entirely provided). The experiment showed that the more audio-explanation was provided, the higher degrees of acquisition and understanding of information and levels of satisfaction and interest by the visually impaired persons were. Also, in cases of the visually impaired persons exposed to the video for which the audio-explanation was entirely provided and the non-impaired persons exposed to ordinary video, the acquisition and understanding of information and levels of satisfaction and interest between the two types of subjects showed no significant difference, proving that the audio-explained broadcasting was effectively an element that reduced the information gap between the visually impaired persons and the non-impaired persons. Meanwhile, the degree of support to policies related to audio-explained broadcasting by the groups of visually impaired persons exposed to the video for which audio-explanation was not provided and the video for which audio-explanation was entirely provided was found to be higher than that of the groups of visually impaired and non-impaired persons exposed to the video for which audio-explanation was partially provided. It can be deemed that the visually impaired persons who experienced a greater degree of acquisition and understanding of information and higher level of satisfaction and interest by the audio-explained broadcasting showed a greater support to the policies related to audio-explained broadcasting.
