This study was to examine how smartphone mediates university student’s self-control and self-efficacy that affects their university life. Based on prior research, I wanted to find out if self- control and self-efficacy affects university life with smartphone addiction and its causal social relationships The method of analyzing statistics were carried by convenience sampling of all university students attending on the basis of a four-year program in Seoul and Kyungi, which was made up of 251 students (male=107, female=144) targeting self-control, self-efficacy, and everyday university lifestyle, asking about their smartphone addiction and their testimonies. The scale in which the statistics of this study revolved around used: the level of self-control, self-efficacy, smartphone addiction and adjustments to university life. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS 19.0 program and the method of analysis was the following: frequency analysis, descriptive statistics analysis, correlation analysis, mediating effects using regression analysis, and to verify the mediating effects, Sobel test was used for accuracy. The Results of this study are as follows : First, examining the surveyors in their use of smartphone, it consisted of the following patterns. The majority used smartphones for more than 3 years (consisted of 60.2%); the daily usage of the majority who were on the smartphone used 3 to 4 hours (consisted of 36.3%); the most commonly used feature on a smartphone was KakaoTalk (consisted of 43.03%); The motive for using a smartphone was to communicate with others (consisted of 51.39%). Second, the relationship between self-control, self- efficacy and the adjustment to university life resulted with the following: self-control, self-efficacy both highly effected adjustments to university life positively whereas; smartphone addiction negatively affected the adjustments to university life. Thirdly, the impact of self-control and the adjustments to university life mediated through smartphone addiction. Not only is self-control and the adjustments to university life directly impacts on individuals, but it also affects individuals indirectly. Fourthly, self-efficacy showed it adjustments to university life through the influence of mediating smartphone addiction. In conclusion, this study determined university student’s self-control and self-efficacy through mediated effects of smartphone addiction. Through counseling and education, we expect university students to increase their self-control and self-efficacy within their level of adjustments to university life and decrease their addiction to smartphone usage.
