경기지역 고등학생의 간식을 통한 지방 섭취와 생활 스트레스와의 상관성 연구 A Study on Relationships Between Fat Intakes From Snacks and Life Stress of High School Students in Gyeonggi Area원문보기

Stress is a kind of anxiety or unpleasant emotional responses that occur when you can not solve yourself about the faced problems, and it is continuously occurred during a lifetime. Especially, adolescents become very sensitive because various emotions are developed rapidly and are subjected to intense stress from several factors including excessive competition resulting from entrance examination centered education, conflicts with parents and peer relationships. Stress shows a very close relationship with overall aspects of dietary behaviors, and undesirable nutritional intake due to stress of adolescents can negatively affect the healthy growth and development by inducing malnutrition. This study was performed in high school students in Gyeonggi-do from July and October, 2014, and then the final 700 copies(350 males and 350 females) collected were used as data in this study. The survey was conducted using self-administered questionnaire, which was made of general characteristics, dietary behaviors, the state of snacks intake and life stress of the subjects. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS statistics 18.0 program. The average age of the subjects was 16.6 years, the average height was 174.1cm in male students and 160.1cm in female students, and the average body weight was 66.3kg in males and 53.2kg in females. The average BMI was 21.8kg/m2 in male students and 20.5kg/m2 in female students, and both were in the normal range. Among health-related life style, the average number of weekly exercise was significantly higher in males than in females(p<.01), and perceived stress was significantly higher in females than males, showing significant differences between males and females(p<.001). Also, the daily average conversation time with parents was the highest at ‘more than 30 minutes’ and this response was significantly higher in females than males(p<.001). The results for usual dietary behaviors showed that speed of eating meal was significantly faster in males than females(p<.001), and amount of meal intake was significantly higher in males than females(p<.01). Meanwhile, the results for dietary behaviors under stress showed that changes in amount of meal intake was significantly higher in females than males(p<.001), speed of eating meal was significantly faster in males than females(p<.001). Among snack habits, the frequency of snack intake was significantly higher in females than males(p<.01), and reason of snack intake was the highest at ‘hunger’. Preferred snack was the highest at ‘confectionery’, and standard point of snack section was the highest at ‘taste’. The results for snacks consumption pattern showed that the monthly consumption frequency of snacks of subjects was 3.67times, and for gender difference, the consumption frequency was higher in males than females, there was no significant differences among two groups. The monthly fat intake from snacks of subjects was 1493.10g, and for gender difference, the fat intake was significantly higher in males than females(p<.01). The average life stress score was 2.51, and the score was significantly higher in females than in males(p<.01). For health-related life styles, the smoking(r=.101, p<.01) and perceived stress (r=.421, p<.001) had significantly positive correlations with life stress, while the number of exercise(r=-.159, p<.001), sleeping(r=-.094, p<.05), and the conversation time with parents(r=-.119, p<.01) had significantly negative correlations with life stress. Meanwhile, for dietary behaviors, the changes in meal intake under stress(r=.125, p<.01) had a significantly positive correlations with life stress, while the frequency of eating-out(r=-.087, p<.05) had a significantly negative correlations with life stress. The monthly fat intake from snacks by the life stress levels of the subjects was the highest in ‘high level group’ as 1530.01g. For gender difference, the monthly fat intake from snacks by the life stress levels of males was the highest in ‘high level group’ as 1827.81g, while females was highest in ‘low level group’ as 1406.72g. Combining these results, the high school students’ dietary behaviors and health-related life style had significantly correlations with life stress, and the monthly fat intake from snacks of males was higher as the life stress increased, while the monthly fat intake from snacks of females was lower as the life stress increased. Thus, it is necessary to provide continuous nutrition education for desirable dietary behaviors and proper snack intake considering nutritional aspects, and to develop various programs for the stress relief of adolescents.
