This research is an integrative study on the dating relationship of elementary school students, designed to analyze holistically the dating situation of the elementary school students for the target group of the students, parents and teachers of the 4th, 5th, and the 6th grades.
First, the outcome of the research is as follows: In the area of educational desire in dating among the elementary school students in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades, in terms of difference between sexes, female students have proved to have higher physiological desire for education and relational desire for education than male students; In terms of difference of grades, the 6th grade students have higher physiological desire for education than that of the 4th grade students, yet there shows no difference with the 5th grade students. It is also true in the area of relational desire for education; Furthermore, in terms of desire for education in dating, female students have stronger relational and physiological desire for education than male students. The 6th grade students have higher physiological desire for education than the 4th grade students.
Second, In terms of the 4th, 5th and 6th grades elementary school students' dating desire for education, the survey demonstrated that grade variables have deeper relationship than home situation variables or sex variables. In the area of educational desire of dating, it has strong ties with male/female sex elements.
Third, in the study of finding out the role of religious organizations as a venue of education regarding dating, it shows that 7 students identified churches(1.9%), Buddhist temple with 4 respondents(1.1%), academic institutes with 4(1.1%), Catholic church with 1 person(0.3%). Even though church has received the highest frequency in the survey, yet it shows minimal exposure to the issue. It demonstrates the lack of education on dating in the religious institutions. Especially the church education that emphasizes sexual purity has revealed the lack of education on dating as a whole. This outcome implies the need to include in the church education system the education on dating according to the Christian worldview for the period of elementary school grades of 3rd and the 4th which is prior to the period when they become active in dating.
Fourth, it shows that there are a big gap between the students and the parents/teachers. The children revealed that since adults do not understand them nor help them, they do not respect adults and the antagonistic attitude against the adults is growing in their minds.
Fifth, The frequency of dating among the elementary school students are frequent; In dating, the trend is the growth of desire for physical contact.
Sixth, most of the higher grades elementary students are using smart phones. Male students are enjoying illicit sexual videos and games through Youtube, Kakaotalk and Kakaostory. Female students enjoy internet novels through SNS. These experiences help causing stronger desire for physical contacts.
Seventh, due to the fact that they did not learn about dating attitude through regular curriculum but through mass media, their attitude is not that of emotion or psychological but of mode of sexual or physical contact.
Eighth, male elementary school students share with each other within and without the school the sexual sites; they are involved in sexual activities within schools; some of these activities also include homosexual related behaviors which is beyond traditional hetero sexual relationship; With regard to methodology to access to dating relationship information, students are learning from their classmates or school culture.
Ninth, while the elementary school students commonly share ideas related to sex among themselves, being hesitant to talk about it with meaningful others, their parents nor teachers do not know the seriousness of the issue, nor have not attempted to solve it.
Tenth, through the qualitative study, it showed that even though most of the parents and the teachers were negative towards the ownership of the smart phones by the elementary school students, yet the rate of ownership of the smart phones and the rate of addiction by the elementary school students have steadily grown, which cause many problems.
Eleventh, Since the usage of the smart phones, which causes the most serious negative impact upon the elementary school students with regard to dating relationship education, is difficult to deal with at the individual or school level, it is demanded upon the government level to control it by offering national education, legal and systematic methods. The adults have to decide whether they would leave the elementary school students in the clean environment or leave them the way it is. The responsibility of such decision should fall upon the adults as well.
Twelveth, the future prospect of the elementary school students of Korea is negative. It is related to sexual harassment, sexual violence, homosexuality and divorces, which darkens the future in Korea. This researcher was able to find out the urgent need to provide curriculum and programs for the issue of dating which would be appropriate and realistic response to the current situation.
Thirteenth, in the area of elementary school official curriculum process, it is urgently necessary to introduce education on dating. What is preferred result from the study is that the timing to introduce the education is at the 4th grade; 3 hours is set aside exclusively for the purpose of offering education on dating in addition to 10 hours of sex education regularized by the department of education; the subject of education is home room teacher, and the method of education is discussion; cont
