‘Design’ has recently changed in a innovative sense and expanded into companies and brands and consumers and market environment in the present age. In every area, ‘innovation’ provides new values and is evolving with the passage of time. ‘Innovative design’ has been utilized as companies’ strategic approach by responding to various changes and the situations which are difficult to predict.
Based on this background, this study tried to understand what ‘innovation’, the new phenomenon shown in design today means. And the study was conducted to try to do find the elements of innovation which are reflected in design. Especially, it tried to draw innovative elements of product design and the purpose of it is to understand the correlation between consumers and purchase. For this verification, the empirical study to find the innovative elements which affect purchase intention by composing electronic products of the present age was tried. Products were selected through the precedent studies and literature and the preliminary precedent survey was conducted with the selected product cases. The validity was prepared by composing innovative products through the interviews and survey. And a model was completed by connecting purchase intention to the composed innovative and non-innovative products and the effects of factors on consumers’ judgement about purchase. The factors which compose innovation of design were drawn as 5 things of ‘aesthetic appreciation’, ‘functions/structures’, ‘practical use’, ‘society’ and ‘admiration’. And the scope that respondents accept innovation was measured through the survey of consumers’ propensity to consume and it was arranged with the survey. The analytical result has found that consumers’ innovation scope was comparatively evenly distributed and the factors like this were provided for the model which draws purchase intention as the suitable materials. The results about the correlation between the composed innovative factors by product and consumers’ purchase intention are shown as follow: products that innovation is high have found that the ‘aesthetic appreciation’ factor only has the effect on purchase intention. And general non-innovative products that innovation is low have found that the ‘aesthetic appreciation’, ‘practical use’, and ‘admiration’ factors only have the effect on purchase intention. Through these, it was understood that the more innovation of products is emphasized, the greater influence of aesthetic factors is shown than general products. This study could find the unexpectedness which is different from the prediction that consumers’ purchase factors depend on innovative factors of products and the possibility as new values.
