To clarify taxonomic relations among 18 cultivars in genus Brassica, which including bred new cultivar as well as to reevaluate the existing taxonomic system of cabbage, this study was attempted. For these aims, multivariate analysis using 8 morphological characters was conducted. The results obtained were as follows;
Ⅰ. Morphological characters
Outer leaf weight was lighter than 0.6kg in 6, 8, 10, 12 and 18th cultivar, while that was heavier than 0.8kg in 14, 16, 17 and 19th cultivar. Head height was longer than 11.3cm in 1, 2 and 6th cultivar,
while that was shorter than 8.4cm in 13, 15 and 17th cultivar. 9th cultivar on F seed company in Japan was classified into most head
tightness and showed superior yield, secondary were 10th on G and 20th cultivar on J company in Korea.
Ⅱ. Multivariate analysis
Genetic relationships among accessions were carried out on 18 cabbage germplasms based on 8 horticultural traits by principal component(PC). The first three PCs represented 77.0% of the total variation in the data set. The first PC and second PC accounted for 34.7% and 24.2% of the total variation and separated the taxa essentially by characteristics related to heading weight, heading width and heading tightness. The result of factor analysis indicated that the first factor composed 3ea were over 0.7 in the standardized scoring coefficients and those were 74.5% of all factor. In this graph of factor 1 and 2, plant height, heading height, heading width, heading weight and heading tightness became the main cause for top growth and plant width, no. of outer leaf, outer leaf weight was related to root growth. As the dendrogram of UPGMA(unweighted pair-group method using arithmetic averages) clustering based on 1 to 3 PCs. 18 cabbage cultivar were classified into four groups at the average distance 0.9. The result of F-test to find out a characteristic common to 3 analysis methods showed that heading tightness with Pr〉F value 0.0098 has highest correlated to all characters. Outer leaf weight and heading height with Pr〉F value 0.0377 and 0.0428 respectively showed the high significant correlation with 3 characters among all 8 characters.
