Recently, increasing urbanization, population density, and traffic have aggravated air pollution in urban areas throughout the world. Also, as the average financial status of many people enhanced, the time spent indoors has also increased. Approximately 80~90% of the time is being spent indoors, and indoor air pollution has become increasingly important. Therefore, in this study, the indoor fine dust concentration was observed at different heights and compare them using two cleaning methods. Also, the size distribution of particulate matter indoors and outdoors were measured and particulate matter were analyzed to predict the cause of particulate matter indoors. The result indicated that as height increased, the concentration of fine dust decreased. Also, cleaning indoors with a mop and vacuum cleaner both could remove coarse particles. After cleaning with a mop, concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 were stabilized as time passed, but after cleaning with a vacuum cleaner, the concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 were rapidly increased then slowly decrease. This indicated that cleaning with a mop was more efficient than a vacuum cleaner in the short run. Particles bigger than 10 μm were dominant outdoors, whereas fine particles were dominant indoors. Composition analysis of indoor particles revealed that they were mostly water-soluble organic matter, fly ash, elemental carbon, CaCO3, and CaSO4, which were introduced from outside. In the case of outdoor particles, aluminum oxides, iron, and heavy metals such as Pb and Ti were found. Also, secondary nitrate/sulfate were found more outdoors compared to indoors.
