According to the charge-discharge process, anion and cation are alternately adsorbed and desorbed to the activated carbon (AC) electrode that is cathode of lithium ion capacitor (LIC). Therefore, in order to improve the discharge capacity of the LIC, the discharge capacity of the cation absorption should be improved. In this thesis, 1,3,5-Trifluorobenzene (TFB) and tetrahydrofuran (THF) were used as electrolyte additives to improve high rate performances of LIC. Moreover the homemade AC/Li cell was used to observe ion behavior near the AC electrode. With increasing discharge rate, the capacity of the AC / Li cell decreases with increasing the slope of the discharge curve and its potential drop at 4.6 V. By adding TFB, the discharge slope improves to increase the rate performance of the cell, and EIS showed that the charge transfer resistance (Rc) of the AC cell decreases. THF increased ionic conductivity of electrolyte by solvent viscosity decreasing. The ionic conductivity of electrolyte showed the best at 20.0 wt.% THF addition. Additionally THF changed the reduction mechanism of electrolyte and the ion behavior near the AC electrode, by disturbing the solvo-complex of electrolyte. The capacity of the AC / Li cell, come from lithium cation adsorbed under 3.0 V, was increased by adding THF. EIS showed that the (Rc) of the cell decreases at discharged state (2.0 V). These experimental results can assist in the design of an electrolyte to increase the rate performances of AC electrode capacitor. Furthermore these results can serve a significant solution in the electrolyte of the electrochemical capacitor, consist with microporous electrode.
