This study investigated English grammar learning strategies and learning styles of high school students and how they interrelate. The issues researched in this study were as follows: First, what types of English learning styles do high school students have? Is it related to gender and language proficiency? Second, what types of English grammar learning strategies do high school students use? Is it related to gender and language proficiency? Third, is there a correlation between English grammar learning strategies and preferences of a particular learning style? To solve the research questions, this study questioned 305 high school students attending high school in Seoul and 248 questionnaires were analysed. Oxford’s SILL(1990) and SAS(1993) were used to measure the use of strategies and learning styles of students. The major findings are as follows: First, high school students more preferred visual, extroverted, intuitive, and openness-oriented styles. With respect to gender, female students more preferred visual, extroverted, openness-oriented styles. Male students more preferred extroverted, intuitive, and openness-oriented styles. The result of the learning style analysis with respect to language proficiency showed there was significant difference in visual, auditory, introverted, concrete-sequential, closure-oriented, global and analytic style. The higher the performance showed the higher preference. Second, results indicated that high school students used compensatory strategies most frequently. Results of the use of English grammar learning strategies according to gender showed that the frequency of use in female students is higher than in male students in all strategic categories. In regards to learning strategies of English grammar as related to English achievement, the study revealed significant difference in all strategic categories. Higher performance was correlated with the more frequent use of learning strategies. Third, the result of examining the correlation between English grammar learning strategies and preferences of a particular learning style are as follows: visual, auditory style was found to use more of the learning strategies than hands-on style. The tendency to prefer the extroverted relationships showed an interrelationship with cognitive, metacognitive, affective, and social strategies. Results showed that concrete-sequential learners tend to use the strategy more often than intuitive learners and were revealed to be the most closely correlated with metacognitive strategies. The study revealed the following: First, studies on grammar learning strategies are still in the early stages. There were developments in various areas through active research on foreign language learning strategies in the last 30 years. Research is needed in identifying elements and features of grammar and systematic study of grammar learning strategies. Second, the study revealed significant difference in all strategic categories. Higher performance was correlated with the more frequent use of learning strategies. Therefore, further research of strategies utilized by learners with high academic achievement is needed. Third, it is necessary to plan the curriculum around students' favored style. This can be achieved by conducting a questionnaire survey to identify students' learning styles for effective grammar education.
