Currently, academic high schools focus on entrance examination and admission of students and are operated superficially and formally without recognizing the importance of non-curriculum activities, i.e. club activities, volunteer activities because of negative thinking that they may not help to improve subject grades. Therefore, this study was carried out to find the causal relationship of this problem and find out the effect of club activities and volunteer activities on the future of students and career choice of students. This study conducted a survey targeting students in high schools in Gangdong area, Seoul to find out how much club activities and volunteer activities help and affect career preparation of students and self-determination capability. Also, by seeking ways to activate club activities and volunteer activities as a meaning to help the career choice of students, those were to be used as an opportunity to create a link from the school to the society after graduation. The survey was conducted targeting 184 high school students in Gangdong area, Seoul, and 120 students already decided their career, 10 students did not decide their career and 54 students were still thinking about their career at the time of the survey. It was found that students who decided their career think that club activities are important in preparing their career while thinking volunteer activities are not helpful in preparing career. Students thought club activities are important because they could realize pleasure together with other students through club activities and acquire professional skills and develop problem-solving skills through club activities. On the other hand, students who do not determine their career yet were found to think that club activities or volunteer activities are not helpful for career choice. Therefore, it is determined to be important to develop a program that can identify the association with study and self-characteristics and enhance the determination of future career through non-curriculum activities like club activities and volunteer activities rather than education biased toward grades-centered Korean, English, mathematics only for college entrance examination. Like students who have already decided their career, those who are still thinking about their career were found to think that club activities are important in preparing career but volunteer activities are not helpful in preparing career. Therefore, students thinking about their career are likely to decide their career through club activities and their teachers and parents need to help them with appropriate intervention and support so that they can select their own interests and move forward voluntarily.
