This study aimed to examine the effects of eating wheat sprouts and using cosmetics containing wheat sprout on the skin. The study was conducted on 32 subjects of both sexes in their 20s and 30s over a period of four weeks. The control group of 8 people used creams which did not contain wheat sprouts on their skin and did not eat wheat sprouts, the wheat sprout-intake group of 8 people used creams which did not contain wheat sprouts on their skin but did eat wheat sprouts, the cream-use group of 8 people used creams containing wheat sprouts on their skin but did not eat wheat sprouts, and the cream-use/wheat sprout-intake group of 8 people used creams containing wheat sprouts on their skin twice a day in morning and at night and ate 3g of wheat sprouts powder. All of these four groups were measured for their skin moisture, sebum, melanin, erythema and wrinkles before and after the experiments. The results showed that skin moisture increased significantly in the wheat sprout-intake group, cream-use group and cream-use/wheat sprout-intake group (p<0.05); subum increased significantly in the cream-use group and cream-use/wheat sprout-intake group (p<0.05); melanin decreased significantly in the sprout-intake group, cream-use group and cream-use/wheat sprout-intake group (p<0.05); erythema decreased significantly in the cream-use/wheat sprout-intake group (p<0.01); and wrinkles decreased significantly in the cream-use group and cream-use/wheat sprout-intake group (p<0.01). In the subjective effects test among the subjects regarding skin improvement, the cream-use/wheat sprout-intake group received positive evaluations and displayed no abnormal skin reactions. There results suggest that applying wheat sprouts, which are natural materials, on skin and eating them have positive effects on the improvement of facial skin.
