The objective of this study is to compare and analyze the effects of music education activities using musical fairy tale on young children's musical ability and emotional intelligence, and provide basic materials of teaching methods to improve young children's musical ability through music education activities using musical fairy tale. Subjects for inquiry set depending on these study objectives are as follows. 1. What effects do music education activities have on young children's musical cognitive ability? 2. What effects do music education activities have on young children's emotional intelligence? This study was conducted with a total of 47 children aged 4 of W Kindergarten located in Iksan City, Jeollabukdo (24 in the experimental group, and 23 in the control group). This study was conducted in the order of the selection of music and fairy tale, the selection of test tools, the planning of basic structure for activities, the lesson planning of experiment, preliminary test, pre-test, experimental treatment, post-test, and data analysis. To find out the effects of music education activities using musical fairy tale on young children's musical cognitive ability, Kim Kwang Ja's(2004) musical cognitive ability test, which Park Myoung Sook(1984) made by modifying and complementing Seashore(1919)'s 「Musical Talent Test」and Lorton and Walley(1979)'s 「Music Materials for Teaching」, was used as a test tool. And to find out the effects on young children's emotional intelligence, emotional intelligence checklists which Lee Byoung Rae made by modifying and adapting what Salovey and Mayer(1996) devised were used. The experiment was treated for 12 weeks from September 29th to December 19th, 2014, and classes were conducted on the basic unit of two weeks. In the experimental group, music appreciation activities using musical fairy tale were conducted, but in the control group, they were not. After that, to find out the effectiveness of music education activities using musical fairy tale, post test was conducted in the same way as pre-test. The collected data were processed using SPSS 12.0 program, and average and deviation between the two groups were calculated. And t-test was conducted for the increased grades of pre-test and post test, and the difference of effectiveness between the two groups was compared and analyzed. The results of this study are as follows. First, music education activities using musical fairy tale showed a statistically significant difference between the two groups in musical cognitive ability. There were statistically significant differences in all the sub factors such as pitch, dynamics, tone, and rhythm. Second, music education activities using musical fairy tale showed a statistically significant difference in young children's emotional intelligence. There were statistically significant differences in all the sub factors such as self-cognitive abilities, self-emotion control abilities, other-cognitive abilities, and other-emotion control abilities. The results of this study showed that music education activities using musical fairy tale had a positive influence on young children's musical cognitive ability and emotional intelligence. Therefore, these activities are expected to be generalized as basic materials for music education for young children in the institutes of early childhood education.
