ABSTRACT Lay Out On the Accommodations Use After Pyeongchang Winter Olyimpic Games Kwon, Hyeok Mi Department of Hotel & Restaurant MBA The Graduate School of Hee Cyber University Advised by professor Lee, Byung Won Following the February 2014 closing ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics in Russia, the eyes of the world have turned to the 23rd Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.Gangwon Province, Pyeongchanggun, Gangnung City and Jeongseongun, Irwon City recovered from two consecutive failed bids to eventually succeed in being elected as the 2018 Winter Games host. Positive results created by the successful hosting of the 1988 Olympics and the 2002 Korea-Japan FIFA World Cup have led to great expectations for the improvement of the national brand image, job creation and an economic ripple effect with the hosting of the Pyeongchang Winter Games. However, unlike the Summer Olympics and the World Cup, the Winter Games are held away from downtown and thus the construction of sport venues, athlete accommodations and infrastructure entail enormous investment. Furthermore, since the Winter Olympics are held in less populated areas than the Summer Olympics, use of the facilities is relatively more difficult. The financial burden of the local government required by the construction of game venues, athlete accommodations and supporting facilities as well as the burden of risk associated with the post- Winter Games maintenance and management of the facilities is a problem that Gangwon Province must resolve at once. As our country has hosted numerous international sports competitions, the one problem that needs the most improvement is precisely the insufficiency in maintaining the usage of these various facilities constructed with enormous budget investment. Particularly, the small-scale boarding accommodations are of great importance and the financial investment in the "Olympic Village" provided to participating athletic teams and related parties is inevitable. Based on the results of analysis of past Olympic successes and failures using the SWOT analytic technique this study lists below suggested measures for the post-Winter Games usage of the new boarding accommodations to revive the relatively lagging Gangwon Province regional economy, create a financial surplus and minimize the long-term burden. First, actively create private investment in improvement of decrepit housing in Pyeongchanggun and Jeongseongun, Irwon, sell to residents. Second, use of the facilities as National Team Training Village through the construction of a transportation infrastructure linking within 1 hour the migrating population of adjacent major metropolitan areas. Third, use of the facilities as a Health Recreation Town and Elderly Welfare Clubhouse by the healthcare service industry which more than doubles the rate of job creation of the manufacturing industry and has a superior record regarding the local environment to develop tourist merchandise as form of treatment targeting the elderly. Fourth, use of the facilities as a Four Seasons Theme Park targeting the continuously increasing number of foreign visitors and investors in South Korea by offering real-estate investment related immigration benefits through the small scale sale of apartments. Finally, give considerable consideration in the development stages to the multifunctionality of the complex as a whole as well as the multifunctionality of each individual component to make the functionality of all facilities variable by maximizing multifunctionality each facility and its individual components
