Although known as acryl paint in Korea, originally its exact name is acrylic paint. The period acrylic paint was first introduced was in late 70s, however, only a small fraction of primary colors of the acrylic paint system was introduced in this period and its use was confined to a few artists. Acrylic paints are dealt as industrial products in foreign and domestic countries, and is being produced under various company names with different production method and raw materials. To understand acrylic paints, this paper intends to build the underlying data by identifying the problem being caused as the components in acrylic paints are absorbed to the support referring to the general background, foreign journals and domestic paint coating composition and ingredients. The selected samples were from a domestic product from Alpha called Gold paint, known for professionals. Within the product, total 7 types of paint colors were selected according to the ingredients of the pigment which were inorganic pigments (Titanium White, Black, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow, Raw Sienna), azo organic pigment (Phthalo Cyanine Blue), and organic pigment (Dioxinazin Violet). Canvas (mix of flax + synthetic fiber), used in art work many times, wood (pine wood), used as finishing material for conservation treatment in cultural property field, and epoxy resin (L-30), were used as support to make each samples for the experiment, and were installed at 4 bearing points, North, South, East, and West in right angles from the ground. Using the change of physical properties and color-difference meter through the microscope shooting, △E*ab values were numerically presented. When averaging the △E*ab value by colors and directions, the figures appeared to be higher in canvas < epoxy resin < wood (pine wood) order, and among them, they were high at 3 bearing points in East (4.91), South (12.88), North (7.47) on the wood(pine wood) support. These results were identified to progress degradation more quickly on rough surfaces with lots of fiber exposure as the degree of fiber exposure acted as the degradation factor in case of wood surfaces. In addition, as a result after analyzing the effect of the pigments on supports, higher △E*ab value was measured at Phthalo Cyanine Blue (938) - 12.88 using the organic pigment rather than inorganic pigments. Accordingly, the result was derived that the activation degree of degradation on surfaces differs depending on the types of support and pigments used as well as the natural environment. The commonly changed background material was significantly observed from August. This was identified to be due to the climate change of temperature, grass temperature, dew point temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, and sunshine hours from June on average. In the result of this study, it was proposed that in acrylic paints, used as finishing materials after conservation treatment in cultural assets conservation field, there is a change depending on the environmental factors and support. It is expected to be applied to conserving cultural assets through further detailed studies.
