Due to global energy shortage problem is the rise, the need for renewable energy is increasing. More than 80% of the renewable energy sources has been produced through the waste and biomass. Accordingly, the aim of this study was to produce renewable energy from a variety of biomass. Peat is used first that is the most low rank in coal. As a result, it does not complete decomposition of the organic matter and still contains the organic matter at least 50%. Therefore, I consider the peat biomass. The second biomass is Coffee grounds. As coffee preference continuously increased, import coffee beans is increasing sharply. But the amount of coffee that have been used to drink is only about 0.2% of coffee beans and the rest is discarded in the form of coffee grounds. To reuse a large amount of coffee grounds, I used coffee grounds as a biomass. Third biomass is chlorella and it is a kind of microalgae. Microalgae is the third generation of biomass. Many studies have been conducted with microalgae. However, in most studies, it is intended lipid recovery of microalgae and the study of solid fuel through the microalgae is relatively insufficient. Therefore, the peat, coffee grounds and microalgae are selected and used to aim at production of the fuel solids (renewable energy). And last biomass is waste activate sludge(WAS). Due to the prohibition of ocean dumping, sludge disposal problem has occurred. Hydrothermal carbonization is a method of producing an improved fuel by SRF changing the physical and chemical properties in the sample. Hydrothermal carbonization is carried out using water as a reaction medium and has the advantage that the reaction occur at a lower temperature than the conventional carbonization. Biochar was generated from a variety of reaction temperature conditions during hydrothermal carbonization and analyzed via elemental analysis, industrial analysis, heating value measurement, FTIR analysis, TGA. The results of the analysis, it was confirmed that biochar improved fuel nature than the biomass and the characteristics of biochar was similar that of the lignite. In addition, the heat value of biochar increased as the reaction temperature increases so the energy density is raised. As a result, the temperature of the optimal energy recovery of peat, coffee grounds, chlorella and WAS is 200℃, 210℃, 240℃and 220℃, respectively. As a result, fuel and combustion characteristics of biochar by the hydrothermal carbonization from a biomass was improved, it was confirmed the possibility the solid fuel production. Also according to the biomass, the reaction temperature at which the best efficiency is different and it was determined to have the best efficiency at 200℃-250℃.
