The main aim of this study is to find out how the lives of HIV/AIDS positive men are like, including their traumas, how their traumas worsen, what impact their past has on their current lives, and how they cope with their lives of the infected. The methodology the researcher adopted for this purpose is a narrative inquiry. The analysis results are as follows. The first time they learned about their medical condition, the participants of the research project said it was like the whole world broke apart in front of their eyes. Their responses can be divided into the following four kinds: denial and despair, avoidance and self-imposed isolation, slow adjustment to a new life – thinking over what to do in their remaining life, embrace – acceptance of their fate. Due to amplifying traumas after infection, most of the infected were straddling on the wall between life and death. Among the post-infection traumas the most serious one was self stigma from society by internalizing social stigma. This in turn led to suicidal behavior caused by chronic depression, loneliness from abandonment by their families, family bad habit and AIDS, fears of losing health, and intense longing for intimate relationship due to suppressed sexual desire. Among the traumas arising from social relationships, the biggest one was the fear of their medical condition being revealed. That included what happened after others found out about their infection, a hospital inadvertently divulging their medical condition, their wandering out of fear that others would know about their diagnosis, and relationships break down. Among the financial traumas, the most painful ones were their inability to pay back credit card bills and the tightening noose of poverty due to lack of job opportunities. The factors, which could help the HIV/AIDS infected persons to overcome their predicament, included motherly love which embraces the patient unconditionally, a strong sense of self-esteem that can protect the infected from self-destruction, and future hope.
