The purpose of this study was to look back on the footsteps of Korean pop history and to provide direction to move forward through a guitar-based acoustic reinterpretation and performance of the major Korean pop songs that have been loved throughout history. This is based on the experience of the researcher who, as a folk music artist, has been listening and rehearsing diverse music for 30 years. The results of this study showed that, although the popular music genre differed in each generation between 1950 and 2000, survey results suggest ballad, pop, folk, rock, dance, and trot as the most popular genres which occupied the overall mainstream. Ballad took up the most proportion. And through the guitar-based acoustic reinterpretation and performance of the hit songs of artists who not only played an important role in the history of Korean pop music but also was loved by many people, were able to once again look over the history of Korean pop music and look after the possibility of many various yet natural musical attempts. This includes by Nam In-soo, by Hyeon In, by Han Myeong-sook, by Shin Joong-hyeon, by Han Dae-soo, by Jo Yong-phil, by Lee Moon-sae, by Kim Kwang-seok, and by BIGBANG. It is being hoped that through this reinterpretation Korean music will be known to many music fans of various ages all around the world, and that the many more attempts of the folk artists will unfold new and different ways of the Korean wave.
