This study is a retrospective comparison study which offers basic data to analyze the difference in recovery time for running an efficient recovery room and nursing intervention when using Midazolam alone and a combination of Midazolam and Propofol before the upper gastrointestinal endoscopy for conscious sedation. The subjects of 1636 people, who visited Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in Senior master C university hospital at Seoul and implemented by EGD under consciousness after taking a medical examination, were chosen. Each of the subject's character, recovery time and recovery score were looked into by Electronic Medical Record from 2 January to 31 December 2014. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS version 21.0 program and Univariate Logistic regression was used to analyze for estimating PSM(Propensity Score Matching). The results of the research are as follows : First, As the result of checking Modified Aldrete score, there was statistically significant difference in using Midazolam alone and a combination of Midazolam and Propofol(the used Midazolam alone 9.78±0.41 score and used in combination Midazolam with Propofol 9.99±0.09 score)(p<.001) and the recovery score was high in group with combination of Midazolam with Propofol. Second, There was a significant difference in the statistics for average recovery time (the used Midazolam alone 43.05± 11.85 minutes and a combination of Midazolam with Propofol 40.60± 14.12 minutes) after taking conscious EGD(p <.005). Therefore, using a combination of Midazolam and Propofol showed shorter recovery time than using Midazolam alone. Using Midazolam alone needs the observation on the side effects(according to capacity), has a low level of recovery and takes more recovery time, so it needs more intensive care than using combination of Midazolam and Propofol. Thus, using combination of Midazolam and Propofol would help minimize the complications with shorter recovery time to manage the recovery room more effectively in the outpatient clinics.
