Music making helps students to improve their creativity for cultivating, "People who exercise creativity with new concept and challenge based on a basic competence" as ideal people pursued in the 2009 revised version of elementary music curriculum. However, creative work educational activities have been managed lightly in an actual school field compared to other activities with the reason of the lack of knowledge about music from the teachers and children, professionalism of the teachers, and interest of the children. For these reasons this study aimed to interrelate the inner motive with music making and learning activities to be revealed by fulfilling the human's basic psychological desires to achieve, such as 'competence, autonomy, relatedness' based on Self-Determination Theory. Also, it makes a teacher and the students take an active role in music making and learning activities based on different types of music knowledge, that is proposed by the Praxial Music Education Philosophy of D.Elliott. This study was conducted with 18 of 4th to 6th graders at D elementary school located in the district of Suwon, in Gyeonggi-do. Firstly, music creativity learning stages were organized to promote internal motivation for creative learning. It made the students concentrate on the learning by fulfilling the human's basic psychological desires to achieve such as 'competence, autonomy, relatedness' providing a conceptual framework based on Self-Determination Theory, at the same time presenting learning elements and sequence reflecting the five types of musical knowledge. Secondly, various academic activities which are carried out in school were presented as main themes to make the daily school experienes can be the creative source for music making Thirdly, by using handy and easy-to-play instruments such as the recorder and kalimba, learning became more interesting and made students more concentrated on the learning. Furthermore, students could take a challenge for creative works without fear by utilizing various application as a supporting tool. The following results were found by this study. Firstly, music creative learning based on self-determination theory contributed to the improvement to the sense of achievement and confidence in students. Competence is fulfilled by successful experiences through sequential music making and learning activities from changing lyrics to making twelve-bar music unit. Autonomy and relatedness are improved by teacher’s autonomy-supportive attitude and interactive type of peer grouping. In addition, musicianship is enhanced, thanks to learning music making process actively with various musical knowledge, especially implementing procedural musical knowledge. As a result, students of seventy-eight percent gained competence about music making and keep their inner motive and were able to take an active role in another music making and learning consistently. Secondly, creative learning using creative themes that are meaningful to students, encouraged students to be proud about their work. The result showed that, especially, for the revised version of song, students more happily sang the song revised by students themselves than the original version of the song. Thirdly, instructional factors were selected with the consideration of five types of musical knowledges by D. Elliot and this resulted in the effect that learnt musical concept and elements were transferred to other musical activities. Positive effects were that when students were playing musical pieces for the first time, the students were trying to acknowledge the musical elements such as tempo, rhythm, form and major rhythm with bearing those in their musical output.
